The Big Bang
The story of the Universe is the story of us.
The Big Bang theory posits that the universe originated from a singularity—an infinitely dense point filled with energy. This dramatic expansion, occurring approximately 13.8 billion years ago, marks the birth of time, space, and matter. Initially, the universe was a chaotic hot soup made of subatomic particles, primarily quarks and gluons, which eventually cooled down to facilitate the formation of protons and neutrons. As the universe cooled, the first atoms—mostly hydrogen and helium—were created. At around 380,000 years post-Bang, the universe transitioned to a transparent state, allowing light to escape in what is known as the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). This remnant radiation is a key evidence supporting the Big Bang theory, giving us a glimpse of the infant universe. Gravity, a fundamental force, began drawing gaseous clouds together, leading to the formation of the first stars. These stars illuminated the dark cosmos and over millions of years, gathered into galaxies including our own, the Milky Way. From its inception to the rich tapestry of galaxies we observe today, the universe continues expanding and evolving, shaping the cosmic landscape and our understanding of the universe's origins.
