Losing a Sibling

Losing my brother was by far one of the hardest things I have ever experienced. Not only was he my sibling he was my seat buddy in the car, my partner for games, my fishing partner, and one of my best friends.

On 10/15/23 at 11:30 at night I got the phone call from my dad that my little brother was dead. All I could do was scream and cry. I couldn’t go see my parents because I was living across the world in Italy while they were still in Colorado. My husband was there but he couldn’t comfort me. I just need to be alone with God.

I spent most of that night crying, singing worship music and replying to calls and texts from friends and family. I was also worried about how I was going to make it home for the funeral.

I ended up making it home about 3 days before the funeral. I spent that time with my family. We cried together, told stories and spent time comforting one another. Although nothing we did would bring him back we found comfort in knowing that the Lord had a plan for his life.

Blevyns was here to bring people to Christ. He impacted so many people around him! He was an amazing cowboy, baseball player, basketball player and brother! He could do anything he put his mind to!

I am so thankful I got to be his big sister as share so many memories with him! I will miss him so much! I have to remind myself all the time that we didn’t lose him… we know exactly where he is… though it may not be one earth with us he is in Heaven with Jesus and we will see him again soon!

For those of you who keep asking in the comments… he fell asleep at the wheel and rolled his pickup.

This narrative serves as a reminder of the importance of cherishing memories and supporting one another during times of grief. Grieving one's brother involves navigating a complex web of emotions, from sorrow to gratitude for shared moments. Many find solace in faith, and it's common to seek comfort in the belief that loved ones are at peace. The journey through grief is personal; while anguish is inevitable, so is the healing that comes from connection with family and friends. Sharing stories, as this author did, can help process emotions and foster healing. Many find that their relationship with God deepens during such trials, as they seek understanding and strength. Those facing similar losses may benefit from reaching out to supportive communities, sharing their experiences, and allowing others to help carry their burdens. Remember, it’s okay to grieve, to miss, and to find ways to honor those who have passed. The path might be difficult, but it can also lead to profound resilience and hope.
