My dog lost her eyes

When Ellie Mae, my beautiful Alaskan Malamute mix, first started showing signs of glaucoma, my heart just sank. Keeping our furniture arrangement consistent has been key, creating a predictable and safe environment for her to move around freely. She navigates our home and backyard with confidence now, almost as if she can see. It's truly amazing to witness her adaptation. Ellie Mae inherited the Malamute's loyalty and sturdy build, but also a playful, intelligent spirit. And then there's Ducky, our tri-color Corgi, who has become her best friend and sometimes, her little guide! Ducky often walks just ahead of Ellie Mae, and it's like he instinctively knows to keep her company and sometimes even block her from bumping into things. Their 'zoomies' together are legendary, with Ducky leading the charge and Ellie Mae following the sound and scent of her buddy. It’s a joy to see them together. Living with a blind dog has taught me so much about patience, love, and the incredible power of a dog's spirit. While her initial 'human eyes' – those gorgeous blue ones – are gone, her heart and personality shine brighter than ever. She reminds me daily that happiness isn't dependent on perfect vision, but on love, security, and the freedom to explore the world with all her other wonderful senses.
