... Read moreOkay, so if you're like me and have a fascination with true crime and history, you absolutely have to put the Alcatraz East Crime Museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on your travel list. I recently visited, and let me tell you, it blew my expectations away! It’s not just a collection of artifacts; it’s an incredibly immersive experience that walks you through some of the most infamous crimes and criminal minds in history. First off, getting there is easy, right in the heart of Pigeon Forge. You can spend hours inside, so plan accordingly. I loved that you could choose between a guided tour or explore independently – I opted for independent exploration to take my time at each exhibit. The price was totally reasonable for the amount of content and unique displays they offer. Walking through the museum, you’re hit with so many iconic pieces of true crime history. For anyone interested in serial killers, the Jeffrey Dahmer exhibit is chilling. Seeing his actual prison glasses and those haunting mugshots up close really gives you a different perspective. They also detail his crimes and victims, offering a stark look into his disturbing world. Then there’s the Ted Bundy section, which features his infamous 1968 Volkswagen Beetle. This car, used in so many of his crimes, is a powerful piece of evidence and seeing it there, you can almost feel the history. It's a key part of understanding the evidence collected against him. It's one of those exhibits that really sticks with you. And of course, the legendary duo, Bonnie and Clyde. Their exhibit is fantastic, showcasing their notorious criminal careers. I saw pieces that reminded me of the original Bonnie Parker wanted poster and learned so much about their lives and desperate journey. It really brings their story, and Clyde Barrow's role, to life beyond just the movies. What I didn't expect to see, but was equally mesmerized by, was the display dedicated to John Wayne Gacy. The OCR mentioned his artifacts, and yes, they have them! Seeing his black leather jacket and the art supplies labeled "J. GACY" was incredibly eerie. It's a stark reminder of the duality of his public persona versus his horrific private life. Beyond the specific criminals, the museum covers so much more – forensic science, organized crime, white-collar crime, and even exhibits on heroes of law enforcement. They truly make history interesting and even a bit creepy, in the best way possible for a true crime fan. Don't forget to take advantage of the included mugshot experience – it's a fun, quirky souvenir from an otherwise intense visit! It's an absolute must-see if you're in the Tennessee area and looking for a unique, thought-provoking attraction.
