Detroit LAYER CURLS on this wig 😮🔥💇🏽♀️
I already showed y’all how I chopped these layers up in my last video… now we about to use my new favorite toy 👀✨
These curlers are super affordable and come with 4 interchangeable pieces 💅🏽
They work so good… now I wanna curl EVERYTHING 😂🤷🏽♀️
Here’s how I did it 👇🏽
• Bottom layers: curled over & away from the mannequin
• Top (closure area): curled under & close to the mannequin head
Then I pinned the curls up and let them cool for about 20 minutes ⏱️
Unpinned them and BABYYYY… 😮🔥😍
This is that Detroit layer curl look… full, bouncy, and giving BODY 💁🏽♀️✨

From my experience working with layered wigs, achieving that iconic Detroit layer curl look can transform any hairstyle by adding incredible volume and body. What I love about using curlers with multiple interchangeable pieces is their versatility — it allows you to create different curl sizes and directions for a natural, dynamic style. When curling wigs, especially synthetic or lace front ones, it’s important to ensure the heat settings and products used won’t damage the fibers. In my routine, after curling the bottom layers over and away from the head form, and the top layers curled under closer to the scalp, I always pin the curls up to cool for about 20 minutes. This cooling step is crucial—it helps the curls set firmly, making them last longer and appear more resilient. Also, spacing sections evenly and distributing curls outward creates a fuller effect that mimics natural hair movement. I recommend using crease-free curlers to avoid unwanted marks in the wig hair. Personally, having a reliable 4-piece curler set has made styling easier without breaking the bank. If you’re new to wig styling, exploring free wig maker tool lists available online can offer you a great start. These lists typically include budget-friendly must-have tools like wig heads, heat protectants, brushes, and adhesives. Custom wigs are another excellent option if you want a unique style—the process usually involves sending a photo with your preferred look and measurements. Lastly, I’ve noticed that Detroit layered curls work beautifully on wigs designed for active wear due to their bounce and low maintenance. Whether you’re making wigs for yourself or clients, mastering this technique enhances the final look and confidence in your styling skills.
