The Bible goes on to say in Matthew 5:14-15, 'You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.' This really makes me think about my purpose. We're not meant to hide our faith or the hope we have; we are meant to be visible beacons. Just like a lighthouse stands firm, guiding ships through stormy seas, we are called to be guiding lights for those navigating life's challenges, offering a glimpse of God's steadfast love and truth. Our light isn't for our own glory, but so 'they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.' One practical way I've learned to let God's light shine through me, even in difficult moments, is by openly sharing MY CONCERNS with Him. As Psalms 28:7 (NIV) beautifully states, 'The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.' It's so liberating to pour out every worry, every fear, every 'concern' to God, knowing that He truly cares about every single one. When I do this, it’s not just an act of personal devotion; it’s a testimony to others that faith isn't about having it all together, but about trusting a God who is big enough for all our burdens. When people see my peace amidst personal struggles, they see God working, and that itself is a powerful light. Another profound aspect of shining God's light involves trusting in GOD'S PROTECTION. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NIV) reassures us, 'But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.' In a world full of uncertainties, clinging to this promise allows me to move forward with courage. When I step out in faith, even when things are scary, and rely on God’s protective hand, I feel His strength. This isn't about being reckless; it's about discerning His will and then acting on it, knowing He's got my back. This trust becomes visible to others, showing them that there's a source of security beyond what this world can offer. Embracing Matthew 5:16 by sharing my concerns and trusting in God's protection ultimately leads to a deeper experience of 'the joy of the Lord is my strength' (Nehemiah 8:10). This joy isn't superficial happiness; it's a profound, inner peace and strength that enables me to face anything. When my life reflects this joy, even through trials, it becomes an undeniable light that draws others in. It shows that living a life submitted to God isn't restrictive, but incredibly freeing and empowering. So, whatever you’re facing today, remember that your light is a precious gift.
