BOOK REVIEW | What Happens After Midnight 🔦

This book was too cute 🥹

I love K.L. Walther - her books are such cute, simple, and easy reads! I love Lily and Tag, but my favorites will always be Mer and Wit from TSOBR. I thoroughly enjoyed the senior prank and the tradition of it, I thought it was so creative and thought out. I LOVED Lily's relationship with her mom, it reminded me a lot of my mom and I 🫶🏼✨

... Read moreMany of you might be wondering if 'What Happens After Midnight' is a 'spicy' read. From my experience, I'd say it leans more towards sweet and charming! It's definitely a wholesome, feel-good contemporary romance, perfect if you're looking for something lighthearted without explicit scenes. Think innocent crushes, heartwarming moments, and playful banter rather than steamy encounters. The story follows Lily, a boarder at an elite New England prep school, as she navigates her final year. The school has this amazing, long-standing tradition of senior pranks, and Lily, along with her friends, is determined to pull off the most legendary one yet. But things get complicated when her old nemesis, Tag, returns, and sparks (and maybe a bit of mischief!) fly between them. It’s a classic enemies-to-lovers trope, but done in such a fresh, delightful way, set against the backdrop of midnight adventures and secret schemes. The plot really kept me guessing about how their prank would unfold and how Lily and Tag's relationship would develop amidst all the chaos. Absolutely, this book is a prime candidate for your next 'beach read' or a cozy afternoon on the couch! K.L. Walther has a talent for crafting stories that are incredibly easy to get lost in. It truly embodies the 'contemporary romance' genre with its focus on young love, friendship, and coming-of-age experiences. If you're scrolling through Goodreads looking for a joyful, low-stress escape, this one fits the bill perfectly. Speaking of K.L. Walther, if you loved 'What Happens After Midnight,' you absolutely have to check out her other books, especially 'The Summer of Broken Rules' (or TSOBR as many fans call it!). While 'What Happens After Midnight' has its own unique charm, particularly with the senior prank element, I found myself drawing comparisons to the delightful ensemble cast and heartwarming vibes of TSOBR. Mer and Wit from TSOBR will always hold a special place in my heart, but Lily and Tag definitely captured my attention with their dynamic. Her writing style consistently delivers those 'cute, simple, and easy reads' that leave you with a warm feeling. She's quickly becoming one of my go-to authors for feel-good stories. Overall, I'd probably rate 'What Happens After Midnight' a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars, just like the image mentions. It’s not groundbreaking literature, but it doesn’t try to be. What it does offer is pure, unadulterated fun and a story that makes you smile. The relationship between Lily and her mom was particularly touching for me; it echoed my own bond with my mother, adding an extra layer of sweetness to the narrative. It’s the kind of book you pick up when you need a dose of positivity and a reminder of the magic of young love and lasting friendships. Definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a charming escape!

This book is absolutely amazing. Maya Angelou’s early life was truly one worth writing about. She eloquently writes of the duality of women and the lives our grandmothers were forced to live. Having a child at 17, receiving the assistance of her mother and shortly after taking full custody. May

My mind is blown! Cannot believe what I just read. This book was wild, especially the plot twist. The hotel scene was wild but can't spill it just go read it. There's a lot of sex if you don't like that don't read it. Available on Kindle now I gotta go read book 2, Strawberry Story.
