NYC Bucketlist Itinerary

If it’s your first time in New York City, there are a few things you definitely need to add to your to do list, and I’m here to make sure you hit all the best spots!!

First up: the iconic Empire State Building. It may be a bit pricey at $41 per person, but you’ve got to do it at least once! Besides, it gives the best views of the city 🏙️

Second, a trip to NYC would be incomplete without a trip to see the Statue of Liberty. But here’s my hack: instead of paying for a special trip to see it, take the Staten Island Ferry for FREE

Next, you’ve got to leave some time to explore Central Park. It’s a massive park and every corner is stunning! I really enjoy the upper west side

If you’re going to New York, you absolutely have to take the subway at least once. It’s the cheapest way to travel, and really gives you a local experience. Download the MTA app to navigate

Go shopping in SoHo. This area is world famous for its shopping variety and designer stores. Save a lil spending money to get something fun on your trip to New York (and save room in ur luggage too)

... Read moreStepping into New York City for the first time is an unforgettable experience, and I'm so excited to share even more tips to make your trip absolutely seamless and incredible! Beyond the initial must-sees, I've got some deeper insights that really enhanced my own visit, especially when it came to making the most of every moment and every dollar. Let's talk about that Statue of Liberty hack again, because it's truly a game-changer! When you hop on the Staten Island Ferry, make sure to head to the right-hand side of the ferry (stern) as you depart from Manhattan. This will give you the absolute best, unobstructed views of Lady Liberty as you sail past. The ferry itself is a pleasant, roughly 25-minute ride each way, offering fantastic photo opportunities of both the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline. While you don't get to walk around the island, the view is surprisingly clear and close enough to appreciate her grandeur, all while saving you the cost and time of a dedicated tour. It’s a genuine local secret that I loved discovering! For the iconic Empire State Building views, if you're willing to splurge, consider going either right at opening or just before sunset. The morning light offers crisp, clear views, while sunset transforms the city into a sparkling wonderland. While $41 might seem steep, I found the panoramic perspective truly breathtaking, especially seeing how Central Park carves through the urban jungle. Alternatively, if your budget is tight, Top of the Rock also offers stunning views, including the Empire State Building itself! Central Park is more than just a park; it's an entire ecosystem within the city. During my visit, beyond just wandering, I made sure to check out Bethesda Terrace and Fountain – it's iconic! The Bow Bridge is incredibly picturesque, and Strawberry Fields, dedicated to John Lennon, offers a moment of peaceful reflection. Depending on the season, you might even catch free concerts or ice skating, so always check local listings. Exploring the Upper West Side of the park felt a bit more serene and less crowded than the southern end, perfect for a leisurely stroll. And oh, the subway! It might seem daunting at first, but it truly is NYC's lifeline. Don't be afraid to dive in! I found that having the MTA app was crucial for real-time train schedules and navigation. Remember, express trains skip stops, so always double-check your route. It’s the fastest and cheapest way to get around, and you’ll feel like a true New Yorker riding it. Plus, it connects you to virtually every corner of the city. Finally, SoHo shopping isn't just about high-end stores; it's about the vibrant atmosphere and charming cobblestone streets. Beyond the flagship stores on Broadway, wander down Prince Street and Spring Street for unique boutiques, art galleries, and some fantastic cafes. It’s a great place to pick up unique souvenirs or simply soak in the fashion-forward energy. I saved some room in my luggage specifically for my SoHo finds, and it was so worth it! Enjoy your adventure in the Big Apple!
