They generally don't have an aggressive streak, which is a huge plus when you have a curious toddler. However, every cat is an individual, so always supervise initial interactions. Secondly, creating a safe space for both is crucial. We made sure our Ragdoll had high places to retreat to if he ever felt overwhelmed, and we taught our toddler from day one how to be gentle – 'soft hands only!' This involved lots of modeling and positive reinforcement. We also made sure our Ragdoll had plenty of quiet time away from the hustle and bustle when he needed it. Thirdly, involve your toddler in the cat's care where appropriate. Simple things like helping to put food in the bowl (with supervision) or gently brushing the cat can foster a sense of responsibility and strengthen their bond. My toddler loves to 'help' with playtime, dangling a wand toy for our Ragdoll to chase. The benefits of having a Ragdoll around my toddler have been immense. It's taught patience, empathy, and respect for animals. Plus, the sheer joy and comfort they bring to each other are priceless. Watching them snuggle up for a nap, or my cat gently 'boop' my toddler's head, fills my heart. While my Ragdoll is certainly 'clingy' with me, that affectionate nature extends to my toddler too, making him a truly unique and beloved member of our family. They are truly inseparable, and I wouldn't trade their special bond for anything.
