eeeYUCK!
This is by FAR one of the dirtiest places i’ve had to dd. I had to walk over tons of trash in the yard and on the porch. Plus their house was 20 min away from the restaurant. ✨HOWEVER… they did tip me enough to fill up my Kia Soul gas tank ⭐️Overall rating: 8 /10 🙃
Okay, so you guys saw my post about the 'eeeYuck!' delivery, right? I just had to share more about that wild experience because honestly, it’s one of those DoorDash moments you don't forget. When I pulled up to that address, my jaw almost dropped. I mentioned the trash in the yard, but I mean, it was *everywhere*. Like, I had to literally step over old takeout bags and what looked like a forgotten pizza box just to get to the porch. The image of those two takeout bags sitting there on the dirty porch next to a red door with stained glass is burned into my memory! You always hope for a clean, easy drop-off, but sometimes you get a real adventure. It makes you wonder what's going on inside, but hey, my job is just to deliver the food, right? I carefully placed Katy S's order – that delicious-sounding mix of wings, chicken tenders, and a beef philly combo – making sure it didn't touch anything questionable. Beyond the sheer mess, there was the logistical challenge. Twenty minutes away from the restaurant might not sound like a lot on paper, but when you're a delivery driver, every minute and every mile affects your bottom line. You calculate gas costs, wear and tear on your car (my trusty Kia Soul!), and the time it takes away from potentially closer, quicker deliveries. I remember thinking, 'Is this even going to be worth it? Should I have declined?' It’s a constant mental battle, figuring out if a given order is a good investment of your time and resources. Sometimes you take a gamble, hoping the customer appreciates the extra effort and distance. But then came the surprise! As soon as I marked the order complete, that glorious notification popped up. The tip was seriously a game-changer! It literally filled up my Kia Soul's gas tank, which, let's be real, is a massive win these days. That’s why, despite the initial 'eeeYuck!' factor and the stained house siding, I still gave the overall experience an 8/10. It just goes to show you that sometimes the most challenging deliveries can also be the most rewarding. It almost makes you forget about having to carefully navigate a path through debris just to get to the front door. This experience really highlighted for me the unpredictable nature of gig work. You can go from a perfectly clean, straightforward delivery to stepping over what feels like a small landfill in a single shift. For my fellow delivery drivers out there, what's your craziest or grossest delivery story? How do you handle those moments where you pull up and just think, 'Oh no'? Do you have a personal rule for accepting long-distance trips, or do you just go with your gut feeling about the potential earnings? For me, a good tip can absolutely salvage an otherwise 'meh' or even gross delivery experience. It makes you feel valued and appreciated for the effort, even if the surroundings aren't exactly five-star. It's a reminder that while the conditions might be less than ideal, the customer's generosity can truly turn your day around. Always remember to prioritize your safety and comfort, but don't be afraid to take a chance on those higher-paying orders, even if they look a little questionable from the outside. You never know when you'll get that golden tip that makes your day and fuels your next adventure!
