... Read moreHey fellow stitchers! Have you ever seen #WIPWednesday pop up on your feed and wondered what it's all about? Or perhaps you're new to the wonderful world of needlepoint and keep encountering the term 'WIP' everywhere? I totally get it – when I first started, these crafting acronyms were a bit confusing too! But don't worry, I’m here to demystify it for you and share why it's such a beloved tradition in our community. So, let's break it down: WIP simply stands for 'Work In Progress.' It's exactly what it sounds like – any needlepoint project you've started but haven't quite finished yet. We all have them, right? Those beautiful canvases that are 'in the works...' sitting patiently (or sometimes not-so-patiently!) waiting for our next stitching session. From intricate wall hangings to charming ornaments, pretty much anything you're actively working on can be considered a WIP. Now, 'WIP Wednesday' is a super fun and widely embraced tradition within the crafting community, especially among needlepointers and other fiber artists. Every Wednesday, makers from around the globe share updates on their current 'works in progress' using the hashtag #WIPWednesday. It’s a fantastic way to motivate yourself, get inspiration from others, and feel connected to a wider community of fellow makers. I absolutely love scrolling through the hashtag to see what everyone else is stitching up – it often sparks new ideas for my own projects! Why is WIP Wednesday so popular? Well, for me, it's a great way to stay accountable. Life gets busy, and sometimes those projects can sit untouched for weeks. Sharing on WIP Wednesday gives me a gentle nudge to pick up my needle and make some progress, no matter how small. Plus, the encouragement and tips from other crafters are just wonderful. It reminds you that you're not alone in having multiple projects on the go – it's part of the fun and a sign of a true enthusiast! For beginners, managing multiple WIPs can feel a bit overwhelming at first. My top tip? Don't start too many at once! Focus on one or two projects until you get into a comfortable rhythm. Also, try to keep your supplies organized for each WIP. A small project bag for each canvas can be a lifesaver, keeping your threads, needles, and scissors neatly together. You can even set a small goal for each Wednesday – maybe finish a specific stitch, complete a small section, or just stitch for 30 minutes. The key is to enjoy the process, not just rush to the finish line. Speaking of projects, 'needlepoint bookmarks' are fantastic WIPs, especially for beginners! They're small, portable, and you get a satisfying finish relatively quickly, which is a great confidence booster. I've usually got a few bookmark WIPs myself, and they're perfect for those times when you want a quicker win or something to take on the go. Ornaments are another favorite, like the one I have 'in the works...' currently! They’re small enough to feel achievable but still allow for plenty of creativity. So, next Wednesday, why not join in? Grab your current 'Work In Progress,' snap a pic of your progress, and share it with the #WIPWednesday tag. It's a supportive and inspiring community, and I can't wait to see what you're all crafting!
