Say hi to a Spider monkey

... Read moreYou guys, I just had to share more about my little buddy, Spikey! As I mentioned, he's a spider monkey with a personality that's as big as his tail – and yes, he can be a bit 'hard-headed' sometimes! What does that even mean? Well, picture this: when Spikey decides he wants a specific piece of fruit, or he's absolutely determined to climb that particular branch, there's no stopping him. He's got this stubborn streak that's honestly quite endearing, even when it means a bit of a challenge for me! It’s all part of his charm, really. Spider monkeys are known for being incredibly intelligent and playful, and Spikey is no exception. He's constantly exploring, swinging around with such agility, it's mesmerising to watch. His antics are always making me laugh; he has this way of looking at you with his big, expressive eyes, almost like he's plotting his next mischievous move. One time, he managed to 'steal' my sunglasses right off my head and tried to wear them! It was hilarious. He's definitely a 'cute spider monkey' even when he's being a little troublemaker. Living with Spikey has been such an adventure. While they're not your typical household pet, they truly form deep bonds. It's a huge commitment, of course, but the joy and unique companionship are incredible. Seeing him curled up for a nap, all peaceful and quiet, is one of my favorite sights. He often finds the most comfortable, sunniest spot to snooze, sometimes even hanging by his tail! It's so cute to see him in his deep sleep, completely relaxed after a day of monkeying around. It’s fascinating to learn about where these incredible creatures come from naturally – Central and South America. They are arboreal, meaning they spend most of their lives in trees, using their long, strong limbs and prehensile tails for swinging. Their tails are like a fifth limb, incredibly strong and agile, which you can really see when Spikey is navigating his environment. It makes you appreciate their natural habitat and how perfectly adapted they are. People often ask me about what daily life is like, especially when it comes to things like keeping them clean or managing their environment. While every situation is unique, ensuring a safe and enriching space is key. Sometimes, for very young or specific care needs, things like special wraps or even 'monkey diapers' might be used, which can be quite a task! It just goes to show the level of care and dedication involved in looking after such a special animal. Spikey certainly keeps me on my toes, but I wouldn't trade his 'hard-headed' charm for anything. He truly is one of a kind!
