It’s someday, and I’m here
Here’s a series of digital collages I made while living abroad in 2023. I’m so glad I made it to someday.
Creating digital collages while living abroad offers a unique way to capture and express the transient yet transformative moments of life. From my own experience, integrating visuals with personal reflections helped me appreciate the journey more deeply, especially when confronting challenges in unfamiliar environments. Digital collages often blend various elements, including text and images, to tell a story that transcends traditional photography. In this series, themes like 'someday' resonate as a powerful reminder to stay hopeful and patient through the ups and downs of adapting to new cultures and surroundings. I found that such creative outlets fostered mindfulness, allowing me to pause and acknowledge my growth over time. The phrase found in one of the collage images, "Someday, when things are... look back and okay, you'll be proud that you did not feel," echoes a sentiment of resilience and self-compassion. It encourages embracing imperfections and trusting the process. For anyone living or planning to live abroad, engaging in a creative practice like digital collage can serve as a therapeutic tool and a memory archive. Moreover, incorporating inspirational phrases in different languages or scripts, like the Arabic text seen in the collage, enhances cultural connection and broadens the narrative scope. It reflects not just personal experience but also the diversity encountered during international living. Overall, this artistic approach not only documents an important chapter but also motivates viewers to celebrate their journeys, cherish their struggles, and look forward to their own 'someday' moments with optimism.
