Harry Potter Party
Recently for Thanksgiving my boyfriend’s family and I planned a get together to watch a couple of the Harry Potter movies! We decorated the entire basement space and had lots of snacks! They are thinking of making it a tradition and might do it next year :)
After our recent Harry Potter movie marathon, I realized just how much fun it is to go all out with the theme! If you're planning your own magical evening, whether it's a cozy movie night with friends or a special themed date with your significant other, here are some of my favorite ways to bring the Wizarding World to life right in your own space. First off, let's talk about Harry Potter movie night decor. You don't need a huge budget to make a big impact. One of the most creative pieces we saw was a fantastic paper-crafted tree structure that had a blue car, much like the Weasley's flying Ford Anglia, seemingly crashed into its branches! It instantly transported us to the Forbidden Forest. You could recreate a similar vibe by gathering some leafy branches for an enchanted forest feel, or even make a smaller version with craft paper and a toy car for a tabletop display. Beyond such specific pieces, think about the iconic elements of Hogwarts. Floating candles are a must! You can easily DIY these with LED tea lights, toilet paper rolls painted brown, and some fishing line to hang them from the ceiling. House banners (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin) are simple to print out or buy and instantly add house pride. For a more subtle touch, fill old glass bottles with colored water and glitter to create 'potion' bottles, or scatter some vintage-looking books around. Printing out pages from the Daily Prophet or creating a 'Wanted' poster for Sirius Black can also add to the atmosphere. Don't forget cozy blankets and pillows to mimic the common room vibe – perfect for snuggling up for a movie! Now, if you're aiming for a Harry Potter themed date night, you can take the magic even further with interactive elements. Beyond just watching the films, consider these activities to make it truly special: Brewing Potions Together: Get creative with themed cocktails or mocktails. Think 'Polyjuice Potion' with green juice and ginger ale, or 'Liquid Luck' with sparkling cider and edible glitter. Making them together is half the fun! Wand Dueling & Crafting: Head to a craft store for some wooden dowels or even use sticks from your yard. Decorate them with paint, hot glue for texture, and beads to create your own unique wands. Then, practice some spells and 'duel' each other – gently, of course! Wizarding World Feast: Cook a British-inspired meal together. Shepherd's pie, treacle tart, or even just some delicious roasted chicken and potatoes can feel like a meal from the Great Hall. Don't forget dessert – Cauldron Cakes (chocolate cupcakes) or Chocolate Frogs are always a hit. Magical Games: A Harry Potter trivia night can be incredibly engaging. You can find plenty of quizzes online, or even invest in a themed board game like 'Harry Potter Clue' or 'Trivial Pursuit: Harry Potter Edition' for some friendly competition. Cozy Corner & Photo Booth: Set up a dedicated comfy spot with all your decor. Add a fireplace video on a screen for ultimate common room vibes. You can also create a simple photo booth with props like glasses, scarves, and even a Platform 9 3/4 backdrop made from red brick paper. Capturing these memories makes the night even more unforgettable. Making a Harry Potter themed night a tradition, as we're planning to do, is such a joy.
