It’s berry picking season 🤩
It’s raspberry season in the PNW! What are you harvesting from your garden? 💚
Berry picking season is truly one of the most rewarding aspects of gardening, especially in the Pacific Northwest where raspberries thrive. From my personal experience, timing the harvest is crucial to enjoy the best flavor and texture. Raspberries are usually ready when they easily detach from the plant, indicating they’re ripe. Picking them early in the morning helps preserve their freshness due to cooler temperatures. In addition to taste, successful harvesting depends on maintaining healthy plants throughout the season by pruning and keeping pests away. Organic methods, such as introducing beneficial insects or using natural sprays, can protect your raspberries without harmful chemicals. Beyond fresh eating, there are many creative ways to use your berries. I like to freeze some for smoothies or bake them into pies and muffins. Sharing with neighbors or turning the harvest into homemade jam extends the enjoyment and brings a sense of community. Gardening and growing your own food not only promotes sustainability but connects you with nature’s cycles. Starting with raspberries in your garden is a wonderful step, especially during harvest time. What’s been your favorite berry or garden harvest so far this season?
