Plant this for winter blooms indoors!

10/28 Edited to

... Read moreGrowing amaryllis bulbs indoors during the winter is one of my favorite ways to bring color and life into the home when outdoor gardens are dormant. From my personal experience, planting these bulbs in pots around November gives them enough time to develop strong, beautiful blooms right around the holidays. To start, choose a good-quality amaryllis bulb that is firm and large. Plant it in a well-draining potting mix, leaving about one-third of the bulb exposed above the soil surface. Water sparingly at first until roots develop, then increase watering to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Place your pot in a sunny window where it can get bright, indirect light. Amaryllis thrive indoors with steady warmth, ideally between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. You may notice the tall flower stalk starting to emerge within a few weeks, followed by vibrant trumpet-shaped flowers in colors ranging from red and white to pink and orange. One trick I learned is to rotate the pot every few days to encourage even growth and prevent the stalk from leaning towards the light source. After the flowers bloom, enjoy the festive atmosphere it brings—perfect for holiday decorating. Once blooming is over, you can keep the plant as a houseplant by cutting back the flower stalk but allowing the leaves to continue growing. These leaves restore energy to the bulb for even more blooms the next winter if you follow proper care including reduced watering and a rest period. Amaryllis bulbs are budget-friendly and require minimal maintenance, making them excellent indoor plants for gardeners of all skill levels. Not only do they brighten up your living space, but they also offer a rewarding experience of watching nature unfold indoors during the chilly months. Give it a try and watch your winter bloom spectacularly!

Do you keep, or chop, a plant’s blooms?
Do you prefer to keep? Or chop your plants blooms? Personally, I prefer to leave the blooms for several days and then chopped them off, as they can take up extra energy from the foliage 🌿 . . . . . . . #peacelily #plantsforbeginners #plantparent #plantdad #plantcaretips

Zone 6 gardeners ~ October is cozy planting season
With first frost arriving mid~to late October, it’s time to focus on hardy flowers, spring bulbs, garlic, and cool-weather crops. Plant now for fall color, a winter kitchen garden, and a head start on spring. 🌸 Flowers to plant now ~ Pansies ~ vibrant fall color, many return in spring ~ Violas
