Self Esteem Read Aloud

Representation is books is key to getting children to fall in love with reading💛 they want to see themselves in the books. They want to see themselves in the authors and illustrators.

I love reading this book at home and in my classroom 💛 and when I tell you all of the little ones smile when they see their hairstyle it just melts my heart

... Read moreRepresentation in children's literature is vital for building self-esteem among young readers. When children see characters that resemble them in books, it validates their experiences and backgrounds, contributing to a love for reading and learning. Books like 'A11 Hair is Good Hair' by Vontavia J. Heard not only celebrate diverse hair types but also empower young Black girls to embrace their natural beauty. This book features affirmations such as 'Your hair is your crown,' reinforcing the idea that every type of hair is beautiful and unique. By including characters with different hairstyles and backgrounds, such literature encourages children to appreciate their individuality, fostering a sense of belonging and confidence. Reading stories with relatable characters can significantly impact children’s perceptions of themselves and their place in the world. Moreover, inclusive literature often sparks meaningful conversations at home and in classrooms, offering a platform for discussing diversity, acceptance, and self-love. Such discussions are crucial in creating an understanding and supportive environment where children feel valued and inspired. In a world where representation matters, promoting books that showcase underrepresented voices and experiences is essential for nurturing a generation that understands the significance of diversity in storytelling. By prioritizing diverse literature and representation, parents and educators can help all children develop a positive self-image while cultivating a lifelong love of reading.

A Letter I Wish I Could Still Read Aloud
Two years ago, I lost my dad. Grief has taught me that love doesn’t end when someone is gone. It lives on in the lessons they taught, the values they passed down, and the memories that continue to shape who we become. Today, I choose gratitude over sorrow. Gratitude for the time we shared.
