I kept my pregnancy a secret (TW)

Two years ago I got out of a toxic relationship and accepted the fact I would never have another baby even though I desperately wanted another one because I want all my kids in my 20s not in my 30s.

December 13th 2023 I found out I was pregnant with my current boyfriend and I was over the moon. After a miscarriage we decided at the time to not tell friends, family or do any announcements until we were out of the first trimester.

Second trimester comes around we decided the absolute bliss we were in our own little bubble and decided that yes keeping the pregnancy a secret would be overall better for my mental health.

It was so nice not having to listen to family ask me why I decided to have another baby so soon after getting into a new relationship, or received unwanted advice or even listen to family fight about who deserves to be in the delivery room.

Now did I receive any black lash about keeping it a secret? Yes, however I truly believe protecting your mental health while pregnant is critical because your baby can feel everything you are feeling. So I do not regret it. (Plus announcing I had a baby once we were all home and in my case after my son was discharged from the NICU- the reactions I received especially from friends on social media was so fun and cute) so really the only backlash I received was from family 🤷‍♀️

"Embracing the journey of pregnancy privately allows for a sacred space to nurture your bond and protect your peace. Sometimes, keeping this beautiful secret from social media and toxic family members is the best way to focus on what truly matters: your health, your joy, and the precious life you’re creating. 🌼💖"

... Read moreIt's fascinating how many of us wonder about pregnancies that aren't immediately obvious to the world – whether it's a "cryptic" pregnancy where someone doesn't realize they're pregnant, or like my situation, a pregnancy intentionally kept under wraps. Both bring up so many questions, especially around how a 'pregnant belly' can truly stay hidden! From my own experience, managing a growing 'baby bump' while keeping it a secret was a unique journey. You become incredibly aware of your body, how it's changing, and what clothes work best. For me, it wasn’t about not knowing I was pregnant, but choosing to embrace that journey privately. I found myself gravitating towards looser clothing, cleverly layered outfits, and really thinking about my posture to keep things discreet. It became almost a game, a very personal one, of navigating public spaces while nurturing this incredible secret within. One of the biggest reasons I chose this route was the desire to protect my mental health. Imagine the relief of not having to field constant questions about your 'pregnant belly' or unsolicited advice about your 'baby bump.' It allowed me to truly connect with my baby without external pressures or anxieties. I could focus on my well-being and the precious life growing inside me, without the white noise of opinions from well-meaning (and sometimes not-so-well-meaning) family or friends. There's a certain magic in that private bond. Every kick felt more intimate, every ultrasound a shared secret between my partner and me. When I finally held my 'newborn baby's tiny hand,' the joy was amplified by the intimacy of our journey. It felt like a sacred space we had protected, allowing us to build a strong foundation as a new family unit. For anyone considering a more private pregnancy, or for those who simply find their 'baby bump' isn't as prominent as others, remember that every pregnancy is unique. The way your body changes, the timing of your bump showing, and how you choose to share your news – it's all deeply personal. There's no one-size-fits-all. The most important thing is to do what feels right for you and your baby, prioritizing your peace and connection. The reactions when the secret was finally out were priceless, and a testament to the power of sharing your news on your own terms. It’s your story, your body, and your beautiful journey.
