HOOD MANGA (my first one shot)
I had a dream as a 12 year old to make my own comic. I did that, and releases my beloved THE UNLIMITED INK but now, at my age I believe I’ve matured enough to say I prefer the median, style, continuity and stories of Easter manga styles more than comics. So I told myself that before I reboot my Unlimited INK as a manga, let me dip my feet and do something of a happy median between west and east formatting and style of my own. HOOD is that first step into the Manga space. What do you all think? #art #artist #HOOD #manga #fyp
Hey everyone! It’s been such a journey, moving from sketching superheroes in my childhood comic books to finally diving deep into the world of manga. When I was 12, creating my own comic felt like the ultimate dream. I even brought 'THE UNLIMITED INK' to life! But over the years, I've really come to appreciate the unique storytelling, intricate styles, and distinct continuity that Eastern manga offers. It's just a different kind of magic, isn't it? That's why I felt it was time for a creative pivot. Before I even think about rebooting 'THE UNLIMITED INK' as a full-fledged manga, I wanted to test the waters with something truly special – a 'happy medium' that blends the best of both Western and Eastern artistic styles. And that's how my first one-shot, 'HOOD MANGA', came to be! Creating 'HOOD' was an exhilarating challenge, especially capturing that dynamic manga feel. You know how manga excels at those intense black and white panels, often using close-ups to convey emotion or highlight key details? I really focused on bringing that energy to life. For instance, in one of the key illustrations, I used a dramatic close-up of Hood's distinctive white hooded jacket and black mask, aiming for that imposing presence the OCR mentioned. It’s all about making every panel count in a one-shot! Speaking of Hood, he’s a character I’m really excited about. He's a key member, the Right Hand, of a group called the Wulf Gang. I wanted him to have that aura of quiet power, which I tried to convey in his stance. The 'GULP' speech bubble from the fearful characters in the background definitely speaks volumes about their presence, don’t you think? Exploring gang dynamics, much like the intense narratives you see in some popular manga and even 'mafia' themed stories, offers so much depth for character development, even in a shorter one-shot format. I've always been fascinated by how different cultures approach sequential art. Moving from traditional Western comic layouts to the flow of manga panels, and even looking at the vertical scrolls of webtoons or manhwa, has broadened my perspective immensely. Each has its own rhythm and way of guiding the reader's eye. For 'HOOD', I tried to incorporate the impactful paneling you often see in great manga, ensuring the story flows seamlessly despite its compact nature. This one-shot is just the beginning of my exploration into this new style. I'm eager to hear what you all think about the blend of Western grit with Eastern manga aesthetics. Does it spark your interest? What kind of stories do you love to see in a one-shot format? Your feedback is incredibly valuable as I consider the future of 'THE UNLIMITED INK' and other projects. Let me know in the comments!
