nursing shift caddy 🧸

i love staying organized at work so that i’m not continuously going to the med room for more stuff. i also love my dino stickers 🫶🏼 #organization #nurselife #typeanurse 💉💉

... Read moreBeing a nurse means every minute counts, especially during those long 12-hour shifts! I've found that having a perfectly organized nursing shift caddy is an absolute game-changer. It's not just about keeping things tidy; it's about efficiency, reducing stress, and ultimately, having more mental energy for patient care. When I first started, I was constantly running back and forth to the supply room, wasting precious time. That's when I realized the power of a well-stocked, portable organizer. For me, the ideal caddy isn't too bulky but has enough compartments to keep everything in its place. I look for something durable, easy to clean, and with a comfortable handle. Some nurses prefer belt organizers, but I find a small, sturdy caddy works best for my needs, allowing me to carry more without feeling weighed down. So, what do I keep in my nurse organizer caddy? This is where the magic happens! My essential supplies include: Pens & Markers: At least two black ink pens (because they always disappear!), a fine-tip permanent marker for labeling, and a highlighter. Small Notebook/Clipboard: For quick notes, to-do lists, or jotting down vital info. A mini clipboard is great for keeping report sheets organized. Scissors: Trauma shears are a must-have for quick access. Tape: Medical tape (paper or silk) and sometimes a roll of transparent tape. Alcohol Swabs: Always good to have a few extra on hand. Flushes: Saline flushes are invaluable for IV care. Hand Sanitizer: Even with wall dispensers, a personal bottle is convenient. Lip Balm & Hair Tie: Small personal comforts that make a big difference during a hectic shift. Snacks: A granola bar or some nuts for a quick energy boost. Small Flashlight/Penlight: Essential for pupil checks or looking into dark spaces. Organizing these items within the caddy is crucial. I like to group similar items together. Pens and markers go in one slot, scissors and tape in another. Smaller items like flushes or alcohol swabs can be tucked into smaller pockets. The goal is to be able to grab what you need without rummaging. Think of it as your personal, mobile nurse supply storage unit! Beyond the caddy, being an organized nurse involves a few other habits. Before my shift, I quickly restock my caddy and make sure my report sheet is ready. During the shift, I try to consolidate tasks when I'm at a patient's room to minimize trips. And at the end of my 12-hour shift, I do a quick tidy-up so it's ready for next time. These little steps truly cut down on stress and help me feel more in control, even on the busiest days. It's all about making your work life smoother and more efficient!
