I love Tessa Bailey’s writing prowess 😍 She really has such an incredible way with words!
The MC’s in this story, Brendan & Piper, couldn’t be more opposite 😮💨 but Tessa is able to makes you see and feel all the things that make them compatible with your whole heart 💘
It’s wonderful getting all up in your feels discovering what makes these characters so good for each other💞 and how hard and fast and fully Brendan falls for Piper 🫠 Swoon-worthy 🫶🏼
Omgosh! And the 3rd act breakup (which let’s face it, sucks, but always seems to be necessary to make a story great), really helped erase, negate, & tear down any remaining walls that the couple may still have had.
Brendan is portrayed as a man who knows what he wants, but isn’t selfish about it! He is absolutely aware of what he’s asking for and truly considers Piper’s feelings in all of it!!
Like they say, book boyfriends always do it better, and Brendan…makes it look so easy💋
... Read moreSo, you're curious about Brendan Taggart from 'It Happened One Summer,' huh? You're not alone! After reading Tessa Bailey's masterpiece, I completely fell for this gruff, yet incredibly tender, fishing boat captain. He's exactly the kind of hero you root for, and honestly, the reason I couldn't put this book down!
Brendan is portrayed as being in his late thirties, around 39 years old, which makes him mature and grounded, yet still bursting with a passionate intensity that's just *chef's kiss*. He's not just a pretty face; he's got a deep sense of responsibility, especially for his town and his family. His whole life revolves around the sea and the community of Westport, symbolized so perfectly by the lighthouse and the fishing boat mentioned in the book's imagery. This isn't just a backdrop; it's intricately woven into who he is, making him a man of integrity and unwavering loyalty.
What really makes Brendan shine, and why he quickly became my ultimate book boyfriend, is how deeply he sees Piper. She's this glamorous city girl, totally out of her element in his small town, but he doesn't judge her. Instead, he challenges her, supports her, and in his own gruff way, completely adores her. Their dynamic is pure opposites-attract magic, like that electrical plug symbol – they just *fit*. You can feel the sparks flying off the page, and it's not just the steamy scenes (and let me tell you, the spice is real and delicious!), but the emotional connection they build.
He's so protective without being overbearing, confident without being arrogant, and when he falls, he falls hard and fully, just as the original article mentioned. His pursuit of Piper is swoon-worthy because it's genuine and thoughtful. He truly considers her feelings, even when he's pushing her out of her comfort zone. It's refreshing to see a male lead who knows what he wants but is never selfish about it.
Beyond the romance, Brendan's character adds so much depth to the story. He's a man of routine and tradition, which contrasts beautifully with Piper's spontaneous, social media-driven world. This clash creates both hilarious misunderstandings and incredibly poignant moments. The way he navigates his feelings, especially during that inevitable third-act breakup, shows his growth and vulnerability. He’s not afraid to fight for what he believes in, and that includes fighting for Piper.
Honestly, if you're looking for a hero who is strong, tender, passionate, and utterly devoted, you HAVE to meet Brendan Taggart. He's truly one of Tessa Bailey's best creations, making 'It Happened One Summer' a solid 5-star read for me, just like the graphic implied. Every one of those 385 pages was a joy to get through, thanks in large part to him!
