Who’s a PSYCHO?
From my experience spending countless hours fishing, I've learned that the way you hold a fish can dramatically affect both the fish's safety and your own comfort. Many beginners struggle with this, often leading to accidental harm to the fish or themselves. The key is to support the fish properly, usually by holding it horizontally with one hand under the belly and the other gently securing the tail. This method minimizes stress on the fish’s body and helps maintain its protective slime layer. Another important aspect is ensuring your hands are wet before handling the fish, which prevents damage to its skin and scales. I remember during one fishing trip, I saw a fellow angler holding a fish incorrectly, which unfortunately resulted in injury to the fish. Since then, I always take extra care to use the proper grip, which also makes releasing the fish much easier and safer. Additionally, being mindful of how long the fish is out of water is crucial. Keeping handling time to a minimum helps maintain the fish’s health in catch-and-release fishing. Using these holding techniques not only improves your fishing skills but also shows respect for aquatic life, making your outdoor adventures more rewarding.
