Movies Based on True Crime Events

1. THE BUCKINGHAM MURDERS, 2024

⭐️Rate: 6/10

🎬Review: It was an average movie. Too many plot twists within a liimited time frame of one hour and fifty minutes, which did not allow sufficient time for charactedevelopment. As a result, the reveals appeared rushed and slightly unconvincing.

Kareena played the role of a UK cop to the best of her abilities, however, if you're going to play that role, you need to understand how a second-generation British-Indian plice officer walks, talks and behaves. And if she's going to stick to this genre of whodunnitsthrillers, she's going to have to learn how to run without looking like the female version of Fort Gump

2. THE ASUNTA CASE, 2024

⭐️Rate: 8/10

🎬Review: Rosario and Alfonso report that their adopted Chinese daaughter Asunta, 12, has vanished, a

Police search begins, and her body is tragically found, her parents are suspected of conspiring in her death.

First off, I had no idea this was based on an actual case, it goes tosome pretty dark and bleak places.

Let's be honest, this is a very, very watchable series, but please talke my advice, watch it in its original, Spanish form, don't watch the English dubbed version, thevoiceovers make it virtually unbearable, Rosario sounds as if she's in a constant state of surprise.

Once I switched it, it came to life, and I could truly appreciate the actipecially the

characterisation of Rosario, The Judge is such an interesting character, y'll wonder if he's right, or simply got an axe to grind, by episode 5, you'll have the answer.

Well paced and never dull, it doesn't lull at any point, one of thoseshows you'll want to binge watch over a night or two

Episode five was the most surprising of all, I watched witth my jaw open, it was the high point.

3. Woman of the Hour, 2024

⭐️Rate: 8/10

🎬Review: This film spoke to me for a couple of reasons. I was a college student during the time depicted in this film, and I remember very well how naive many young women were about how manipulative, conniving, and dangerous some men could be. I'm fortunate that rnothing happened to me, because I certainly took some risks in situations where I should have knowbetter. And then when something like a sexual crime did happen to a young woman, law enforcement didn't always take it seriously. They often thought the girl was asking ffor it because, for example, she was wearing a short skirt and walking alone at night.

The pacing of this film is deliberate and intense, and it switches back and forth between time frames and victims. I found it a little annoying at first, but it all made sense at the end. I thought Anna Kendrick and Daniel Zovatto played their roles extremely well. Zovattcame across as creepy AF. A few points are fictionalized, of course, and I'm not sure howuch. I did some reading about Rodney Alcala, and the way he was apprehended is essentiallye. If you can deal with the slow pace of this film, it's well worth the watch

4. REBEL RIDGE, 2024

⭐️Rate: 6/10

🎬Review: This is so closely related to the Stephen Lara case in Nevada back in 2021. He was a retired Marine, heading to California to start a new life with his daughters. Theyt him with nothing on the side of the road. No charges, no arrests. Only a "justifiable" reason to seize his money. So much so, there's exact dialogue in the movie that matches the police body cam footage, such as having receipts for bank transactions, saying it's not illegal to carry cabw the money was going to be distributed, if he doesn't file a suit he might get his money etc. The real victim was robbed of $86k cash by Nevada Highway Patrol. Look it up onYouTube. There's a complete documentary on it.
