For me, I made sure to call my family every weekend and I always reminded myself that it’s okay to be sad and miss them. On the other hand, I was often so busy with classes, extracurriculars, and making new friends that I didn’t really have time to be homesick most of the time! It’s hard, but you’ll get through it! 🫶💕

Many students face feelings of homesickness, especially in their first year. To tackle this issue, it’s essential to establish a routine that includes regular communication with family and friends, allowing students to maintain those vital connections. Additionally, engaging in campus activities can help to create a sense of belonging and keep students occupied, countering feelings of loneliness. Finding local student support groups or online communities can also provide comfort and understanding, as many are experiencing similar feelings. Techniques such as mindfulness, journaling, and personal reflection can also be beneficial in managing emotions. Creating a comfortable living space and personalizing it with familiar items from home can also help students feel more at ease. Lastly, remember that homesickness is a normal part of transitioning to college life, and it can improve over time as students adjust. Seeking help from campus counseling services if needed can provide additional coping strategies and emotional support.

To be honest, I was like at most an hour away with traffic so I would just go home if I wanted to. I think when I couldn’t I would just FaceTime my mom lolol
