How long should I let my kids have screen time? 📲🤔

2024/7/11 Edited to

... Read moreIn today's digital age, determining the right amount of screen time for children can be challenging for parents. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) suggests that children aged 2 to 5 should be limited to one hour of high-quality programming each day, while consistent and healthy usage is essential for older children. It's important to not only focus on time limits but also on the quality of content consumed. Parents should engage with their children during screen time, discussing the content and its relevance. Encouraging screen-free activities, such as outdoor play, reading, or creative hobbies, can provide a balanced lifestyle. Additionally, creating tech-free zones and times, like during meals or before bedtime, can promote family bonding and better sleep hygiene. Engaging children in activities that don't involve screens fosters imagination and social skills, ensuring they develop holistically. Establishing clear guidelines for technology can ultimately lead to healthier screen habits and improved family dynamics.

Screen time with kids is always difficult especially now. What we do for my daughter is the only screen she looks at or screen time she gets is on the tv, putting the remote away. This way we have control of what she’s watching and for how long. She doesn’t have any tablet and we have never given her our phones for any screen time or entertainment. You just gotta find that happy medium potentially and what works for you with out being on either extreme

I don’t let my kids have screen time unless it’s for educational games or tv time as a family. No YouTube, not even YouTube Kids. Just because something meets the minimum requirements to be labeled “for kids” doesn’t mean it’s actually safe, beneficial, or aligned with what I want my kids consuming.
