How do you deal with grief of losing Someone who i

My sister in law cut off her whole family and including me because of a boy she knew for 2 months. She was my maid of honor and she was so close to her family. She left angrily one day because her dad had a curfew of 11 pm because he needed trust, he didn’t know that boy. She threw tantrums and cursed out her family. In the end, she left her family, her dog, and her life behind to be with this man. She told me she didn’t love him and she thought that she would knew he was the one and that she would “feel” it. Tomorrow will be one month since she has left and made no contact.
Losing someone who is still alive, especially when they suddenly cut ties like your sister-in-law did, creates a complex kind of grief that many find hard to navigate. It’s a deep emotional loss of connection rather than the physical death we usually associate with grief. From my own experiences and those shared by others, I’ve learned that accepting this pain as valid is the first step toward healing. When someone leaves abruptly, often due to conflicts or new relationships, it can leave a lasting sense of abandonment. It’s important to allow yourself to feel the sadness, anger, and confusion without judgment. Connecting with supportive friends or family can provide comfort, but sometimes professional counseling is necessary to work through these intense feelings. Journaling has helped me process my emotions by putting my thoughts into words, especially when communication with the person is cut off. Also, focusing on self-care—whether through exercise, creative outlets, or mindfulness practices—can help restore balance and reduce anxiety. Remember, this kind of grief doesn’t have a defined timeline, and it’s okay to take the time you need. Finding new ways to honor the relationship or finding closure within yourself can restore peace gradually. Above all, recognize that your feelings are real and reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
