Sloane is doing a fellowship where she’s given the research topic of forensic genealogy. She opens a whole can of worms when she begins the research process and finds herself in a small town in the middle of a whole lot of corruption and lies.
I was up until 2 am finishing this book because I couldn’t put it down. The twists kept coming and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style and how it was set up to go from past to present, and the multiple POVs.
There’s a lot of characters and it worried me at first, but as I read it all came together and the ending had me shocked. I fully expected someone else to be behind everything.
I read this as part of a book club and went in blind and now I need to go read all of Charlie’s other books.

He's a master at misdirection, keeping you guessing until the very last page. Beyond 'Twenty Years Later,' other widely praised titles like 'The Girl Who Was Taken' and 'Summit Lake' are also fantastic entry points into his bibliography. They all showcase his talent for building palpable tension and delivering satisfying, shocking conclusions. You'll find consistent themes of hidden secrets, small-town corruption, and protagonists determined to uncover uncomfortable truths, which resonated so strongly with me in 'Long Time Gone.' It's always fascinating to learn about the authors behind such captivating stories, and I've seen queries like 'Charlie Donlea author photo' and even 'Charlie Donlea wife.' While I don't delve much into authors' personal lives, it’s clear from his writing that Charlie Donlea possesses an extraordinary imagination and a deep understanding of human psychology. His dedication to crafting such detailed, character-driven, and often shocking mysteries is evident in every single page. He truly is a craftsman of suspense. And just a quick clarification for anyone who might have come across 'Long Time Gone Joshua Moehling' in their searches – it's important to note that the incredible 'Long Time Gone' I reviewed, the one that kept me up until 2 AM with its twists and turns, is definitively by Charlie Donlea!
