For more detailed pieces like a miniature white fireplace, you can layer and cut cardboard or use craft foam for the mantelpiece and detailing. Imagine crafting a tiny white piano from a block of wood or layered cardboard, adding painted keys! When it comes to smaller decorative touches, the possibilities are endless. For rugs, beyond gluing twine, you can cut shapes from felt, use braided yarn scraps, or even find textured fabric swatches. Tiny framed art can be made easily by cutting pictures from magazines or printing miniature designs and framing them with cardboard and gold washi tape, just like I did. For specific rooms, like a dollhouse nursery, you can create a cozy crib from popsicle sticks and fabric, or even a cute wooden tree-shaped shelf from cardboard painted to look like wood. And what about those functional items? My miniature brooms and mops, made from twine and thread, show how simple materials can create such charming details for a kitchen or laundry area. You can extend this to other kitchen accessories using beads, buttons, or small plastic caps. For a laundry room, a DIY clothing rack from skewers and cardboard is perfect, and you can even hang tiny clothes from a makeshift clothesline! The key is to look at everyday items with a fresh, miniature perspective. Think about the texture, color, and shape of materials, and how they can be transformed. Don't be afraid to experiment with different glues – hot glue for quick bonds, and craft glue for stronger, more permanent fixes. Painting with acrylics can bring life to cardboard or wooden pieces, and markers can add fine details. Ultimately, designing your dollhouse interior is about bringing your imagination to life. Consider a theme or color scheme, and think about how the furniture will be arranged to create a functional and inviting space for your tiny residents.
