How I customized my iPad!
Just got a tablet today, and the first thing I did was start customizing! Don't get me wrong I was starting to get frustrated because it seemed like you had to pay for all the apps but then I finally got the hang of it. I got all my images from pinterest and used shortcuts and Widgetsmith for majority of it. I would say Widgetsmith is mostly a membership but you could add images for free! (They also do offer some free style) once I finally figured out how to use shortcuts I went ahead and started changing the icons.
Share how you customized your iPad!
I totally get the struggle when you first dive into iPad customization! It feels like everyone has these amazing, personalized home screens, and then you open the App Store and see a paywall. But trust me, with a little patience, you can absolutely achieve that dream aesthetic for free, just like I did! One of my biggest discoveries was how powerful Widgetsmith can be, even without a premium subscription. While the original post mentioned it, let me share a bit more. You can create custom photo widgets entirely for free! I love using mine to display inspiring quotes, family photos, or even a mini mood board. For example, my current theme is all about nature and calming vibes, so I have a beautiful waterfall background and a photo widget showing lush green plants, just like the one I saw in a collage I found. It really ties everything together. You just pick your widget size, choose 'Photo' as the style, and select an image from your camera roll. It’s super straightforward once you get the hang of it. You can even set specific times for photos to change, making your screen feel dynamic! Then there's Shortcuts – this app is a game-changer for custom app icons. It might seem a little intimidating at first, but it’s actually quite fun. Here’s a quick tip: find your desired icon images on Pinterest (that's where I found all my aesthetic icons for apps like FaceTime and Canvas, matching my overall green and blue palette). Then, in the Shortcuts app, create a new shortcut, add the 'Open App' action, choose the app you want to customize, and then tap the three dots to 'Add to Home Screen'. This is where the magic happens – you can rename the app and, most importantly, select a custom image for its icon! This lets you completely ditch the standard app icons and embrace a truly unique look. I spent an afternoon curating a collection of pastel-colored icons that perfectly complement my nature-themed background. Beyond widgets and icons, don't forget about your iPad wallpaper ideas. A stunning wallpaper sets the whole mood. Pinterest is an endless source for this – just search for 'aesthetic iPad wallpaper' or 'minimalist iPad background'. I personally love animated wallpapers or those with subtle patterns that aren't too distracting. Think about how your chosen background will interact with your custom widgets and app icons. Do the colors clash, or do they create a harmonious palette? For even more personalization, explore your iPad's built-in features. Did you know you can create custom Focus Modes that change your home screen based on your activity? For example, I have a 'Study' focus that shows only my essential study apps and a productivity widget, keeping distractions at bay. It's not just about aesthetics; it's about making your iPad work better for you. Experiment with different widget sizes and layouts for your home screen. A larger calendar widget might be perfect for your main page, while a smaller weather widget can tuck neatly into a corner. Personalizing your iPad is a journey, not a destination. It’s about expressing your style and making your device feel truly yours. Don't be afraid to experiment, and most importantly, have fun with it! Share your own discoveries – I'd love to see how you've made your iPad uniquely yours!
