How to apply for an Icelandic visa 2569: Moving from Denmark to Tokyo

For anyone who has plans to go to Road Trip or North Light Hunting in Iceland, please note! From February 1, 2026 onwards, the visa filing system has undergone a significant change. It will change from the original filing through VFS Denmark to the direct filing through VFS Global (Iceland), and the passport will be sent to the Embassy of Iceland in Tokyo, Japan instead.

📍 1. Filing place (still in Thailand but changing system)

Despite the volume going to Japan for consideration, applicants can still file documents in Thailand at the VFS Global Center as follows:

Bangkok: The Shop at Bel Grand Rama 9 (1st Floor), same spot as Denmark

Chiang Mai: Siripanich Building, 6th floor

⚠️ Caution: In the online appointment system, you only need to choose "Apply for Iceland" directly. Do not choose Denmark as before.

💰 2.Update the new fee (total 160 euros).

Due to the need to send passport volumes across the country to Japan, there is an increase in the cost of Logistic Fee. Summary of the peaks to be prepared as follows:

Visa Fee (Visa Fee) 3, xxx Baht

Logistic Fee (Japan round-trip) 1, xxx Baht

VFS Service Fee (Zero Service Charge) 1, xxx Baht

Total Total ~ 6, xxx Baht

🚨 3. Iron Rule to Know: "Passports are locked."

Here's where travelers need to plan their best:

Lead time: About 3 weeks - 1 month

Do not retrieve the book: While the passport book is in Tokyo, the book cannot be borrowed. If there is a need to use the passport to travel elsewhere and request it back, it will be "Cancel" immediately.

Instructions: Should be filed at least 2 months in advance before travel.

📅 4.Holiday Watchlist: Czech Japan-Iceland Holiday

Apart from Thai holidays, you must also allow time for Japanese and Icelandic public holidays because the embassy in Tokyo will be closed as follows:

February 2026 (Japan): 11th (Inauguration Day) and 23rd (Emperor's Day)

March 2026 (Japan): Day 20 (vernal equinox)

Iceland: Late March - Early April. There will be a long Easter holiday (Maundy Thursday - Easter Monday).

Good news for the Schengen Multiplets.

If you have a Multiple Entry Schengen visa of another country (such as France, Switzerland) that has not expired and has already been stamped in the country where the visa was issued, you can enter Iceland immediately without applying for a new application according to this new rule. It saves a lot of time and cost.
