Buffalo Chicken Dip
* 1 pound chicken breasts cooked and shredded
* 4 ounce cream cheese room temperature
* 1 cup sour cream
* ½ cup buffalo sauce (Frank's Red Hots is my favorite but any will work)
* 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
* 1 tablespoon French onion powdered soup mix
* 2 tablespoons of mayo
* Toasted baguette slices, crackers or tortilla chips
Preheat Your Oven:
Set your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Combine Ingredients:
Add the shredded chicken, softened or whipped cream cheese, mayo and French onion soup mix , buffalo sauce, and half of cheddar cheese to a large mixing bowl and stir ingredients
Stir until it looks creamy with no streaks of cream cheese left
Fill The Baking Dish:
Use a spoon or spatula to transfer the creamy mixture into a one and a half quart baking dish. Smooth the top evenly so the cheese topping bakes uniform
Add Cheese Topping:
Sprinkle the remaining half cup of shredded cheese evenly over the surface.
Make sure to cover to the edges for maximum melt
Bake To Perfection:
Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
Watch for the cheese to brown lightly on top and for bubbling edges. Let cool and serve hot
Pro tips:
-you can add another chicken breast if desired for more hearty dip.
-refrigerates well, and leftovers are great
Buffalo chicken dip is one of those crowd-pleasing dishes that never fails to bring people together. What I really love about this recipe is the balance between the spicy buffalo sauce and the creamy textures from the cream cheese and sour cream, making every bite rich and flavorful. I personally prefer using Frank's Red Hot sauce as it adds just the right amount of heat without overpowering the other ingredients. When preparing the dip, make sure to properly shred the cooked chicken breasts to help the mixture bind well with the creamy base. The addition of French onion powdered soup mix might seem unusual, but it infuses the dip with a subtle onion and herb flavor that complements the sharp cheddar cheese beautifully. Speaking of cheese, using sharp cheddar cheese creates a nice melty texture and depth, and sprinkling half on top before baking ensures a golden browned crust. For serving, toasted baguette slices or tortilla chips are my favorites, offering a satisfying crunch that contrasts the soft creamy dip. This dish is great for tailgating or casual gatherings since it holds up well in the fridge and tastes even better the next day. I’ve also experimented by adding an extra chicken breast when expecting a larger crowd, which increases the heartiness without sacrificing the creamy consistency. If you’re looking to customize, consider adding finely chopped celery or green onions for a fresh crunch or a bit of blue cheese for an added tang. Oven temperature is key; baking at 350°F allows the dip to heat through evenly, melting the cheese and encouraging bubbling edges without burning. Letting it cool briefly after baking makes it easier to serve. Overall, this buffalo chicken dip is a reliable, tasty recipe that’s simple to prepare and sure to impress your guests. Whether for game day snacks or a casual party, it’s the perfect blend of spicy, creamy, and cheesy goodness.
