how to avoid pregnancy stretch marks

i’ll start with the obvious first

1. some peoples bodies can not avoid the marks

2. some people naturally don’t get them at all

3. just bc it worked me for me doesn’t guarantee it will work for you

but it’s worth a shot??

so my boss at work told me that she used cocoa butter lotion and didn’t get ANY stretch marks. so ofc i JUMPED right on board bc no stretch marks after pregnancy?? anyone would.

she pointed me to the palmers cocoa butter lotion and told me it would work but i had to use it EVERYDAY, especially since i was starting at such a small frame. i started using it as soon as i started gaining weight and showing. i had never had stretch marks and i didn’t want them either.

i tried to stay on top of it, i used it every time i got out of the shower so not really evverryyday, probably every other day or so.

and it honestly worked soooo welll

and i bet you’re wondering

“but les

how do you know that it actually worked and it wasn’t just your body ✨naturally✨ keeping them away???”

well

😑

let me tell you bc NO ONE TOLD ME that you can get stretch marks on other parts of your body during pregnancy.

i have them between my thighs, on my 🍒’s

and on my KNEE CAPS!! like what?

yeah.

i didn’t put it on the rest of my body bcccc

this is my first baby and how was i supposed to know i was gonna get some MASSIVE knockers and some FAT AHH KNEE CAPS!?!

i didn’t.

so

now i have them. they aren’t purple anymore luckily so not as visible but i obviously CAN get stretch marks so that means this was some gooood stuff.

highly recommend slapping some on your knees as well..

ya know.

just incase! 😂

... Read moreNavigating pregnancy is such a wild, beautiful journey, and for many of us, the worry about pregnancy stretch marks is definitely on our minds! While I shared my personal experience with cocoa butter lotion working wonders for my stomach, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into what I've learned and what other mamas are doing to either prevent or embrace these stripes of motherhood. First off, what are stretch marks, really? From what I've gathered, they're essentially tiny tears in the deeper layers of our skin, called the dermis, caused by rapid stretching. During pregnancy, our bodies undergo incredible changes – our belly expands, breasts grow, and sometimes even thighs and hips widen. This quick expansion, combined with hormonal changes that can affect skin elasticity, makes us more prone to them. It's not just about how much weight you gain, but how quickly you gain it. I've heard so much about genetics playing a huge role. If your mom or grandmom had them, chances are you might too. But that doesn't mean you can't try your best to minimize their appearance! Beyond my experience with cocoa butter lotion, here are a few other things I’ve come across that mamas swear by for preventing or managing stretch marks, especially on your stomach where they're most common: Hydration, Inside and Out: Drinking plenty of water is key for skin elasticity. And on the outside, keeping your skin moisturized is crucial. Many women use a combination of oils and creams. I've heard great things about Bio-Oil, shea butter, and even plain old coconut oil. The key seems to be consistent application, just like my boss told me for the cocoa butter – morning and night, and especially after a shower when your skin is still damp and ready to absorb moisture. Don't forget those often-missed spots like the sides of your stomach, lower back, and even knees, like I regrettably discovered! Nutrient-Rich Diet: Eating a balanced diet rich in vitamins C, D, E, and zinc can support skin health and elasticity. Foods like leafy greens, citrus fruits, nuts, and fish are often recommended. It makes sense – healthy skin from within definitely helps. Gentle Massage: Some mamas find that gently massaging their belly with their chosen cream or oil helps improve circulation and product absorption. It also feels quite relaxing! Managing Weight Gain: While it's important to gain enough weight for a healthy pregnancy, trying to keep the gain steady and gradual, rather than sudden, can give your skin more time to adjust. This was a challenge for me, gaining rapidly, so consistent moisturizing was even more vital. It’s also important to manage expectations. Even with the best efforts, some stretch marks might still appear, and that’s perfectly normal and beautiful! They're a testament to the incredible journey your body has been on. After pregnancy, many stretch marks fade significantly, often turning lighter and less noticeable. There are also treatments like laser therapy or retinoids available postpartum, but those are conversations for later with your doctor. Ultimately, whether you get pregnancy stretch marks or not, your body is doing an amazing job. Be kind to yourself, keep that skin hydrated, and embrace the beautiful changes. Every mama's journey is unique!
