🌿 A Visit to Whitney Plantation.

The Whitney Plantation is not like other plantation tours — this space is intentionally curated to center the truth of slavery and the lives of those who endured it.

From memorial walls listing the names of over 100,000 enslaved people, to powerful sculptures honoring children who were born into slavery, every corner holds a weight that’s impossible to ignore. The stories here are raw, personal, and deeply human.

Being here as a Black woman was heavy but necessary. Our ancestors were not just laborers — they were mothers, fathers, children, dreamers, and survivors. This visit was a way to honor their strength while acknowledging the generational grief we still carry.

If you’re ever in Louisiana, I encourage you to experience Whitney. It’s not easy, but it’s powerful.

... Read moreWhitney Plantation, established in 2014, is dedicated to educating visitors about the realities of slavery in America. It features extensive memorialization, including walls that honor over 100,000 enslaved individuals. Visitors encounter artworks and monuments that evoke deep emotional responses, encouraging reflection on the generational trauma experienced by descendants of enslaved people. Onsite narratives and historical insights allow for an immersive understanding of the plantation's past and its enduring impacts on culture and identity. In addition to art installations, Whitney Plantation also houses artifacts and testimonies that weave together the stories of those who lived and labored there. Engaging with this history is both heavy and transformative; it's a place where painful truths are laid bare, urging visitors to confront and reflect on the complexities of history. Whether you're interested in history, culture, or social justice, Whitney Plantation serves as a crucial reminder of resilience and remembrance, making it a key destination for anyone visiting Louisiana.
