school mornings as a mom of 3☀️

... Read moreLet's be real, school mornings with multiple kids can feel like a marathon before the sun even fully rises! As a mom of three, I’ve had my fair share of chaotic moments, but I've also learned a few tricks to make those crucial hours a little smoother. It’s all about feeling like you’ve got things under control, even when the unexpected happens – and trust me, it always does! My secret weapon for conquering school mornings? Preparation, preparation, preparation! It might sound obvious, but doing as much as possible the night before is an absolute game-changer. We lay out outfits for each child (and myself!), pack lunches, and make sure backpacks are loaded and sitting by the door. I even set out breakfast dishes and non-perishable food items so there’s less to scramble for when everyone is still half-asleep. This simple step cuts down on so much morning stress and gives us precious extra minutes. When the alarm finally goes off, I try to wake up 15-20 minutes before the kids. This tiny window is my sanctuary – a chance to quickly brush my teeth, splash some water on my face, and grab that first sip of coffee in peace. It helps me feel a bit more human and ready to tackle the day. You know, like one of those 'hot moms' who somehow manage to keep it all together (or at least look like they do!). Breakfast is another area where efficiency is key. While my original post mentioned my curls being out, the focus is really on getting through those school mornings. We often rotate between quick options like overnight oats, fruit and yogurt, or pre-made muffins. Sometimes, if we have a little more time, a quick scrambled egg, but I always prioritize something nutritious that won't take forever to prepare or eat. Getting the kids involved, even in small ways, helps too. My older ones can grab their own bowls or choose their cereal, which fosters a sense of independence and saves me a few steps. And what about hair? Like I mentioned earlier, some days the curls just have a mind of their own! But a quick braid or a messy bun can be a lifesaver. It’s all about embracing the reality of mom life – sometimes, perfect hair isn't the priority, but getting out the door with smiles (mostly) is! I keep a basket of hair ties, brushes, and kid-friendly detangler right in the bathroom to make the morning hair routine as painless as possible. Of course, not every school morning goes perfectly. There are spilled milks, forgotten homework, and unexpected meltdowns. On those days, I try to remind myself that it’s okay. We take a deep breath, reset, and focus on moving forward. The goal isn't perfection, but progress. Finding those small victories – like everyone having matching socks, or actually making it out the door on time – makes all the effort worth it. It's about creating a flow that works for YOUR family, allowing you to feel confident and capable, even amidst the beautiful chaos of raising three kids.
