Before YOU Act, Ask Who Is Whispering!
✨A Light 💡in the Night🌙
Hey family 💛🙏🏾 during my LUNCH BREAK 🍽️, I opened my Bible today and read 2 Samuel 10:1–5 📖. I was reading about the story of Hanun, who had an opportunity to RECEIVE kindness 🤝🏾 from King David, but instead allowed POOR COUNSEL 🗣️ to convince him that David was out to do him harm 😔. Without SEEKING God’s guidance 🙏🏾, Hanun reacted FOOLISHLY ⚠️, and that one decision led to the DESTRUCTION of his entire army ⚔️.
That story feels painfully RELEVANT today 🪞. As believers, we are constantly surrounded by VOICES 📢. Everyone has an opinion. Everyone has advice. But the real question is: WHO are we listening to? 👂🏾 And more importantly, are we PRAYING before we respond? 🙏🏾
Hanun didn’t pause 🛑. He didn’t pray 🕊️. He didn’t ask God for DISCERNMENT 👀. He let fear-driven voices INTERPRET the situation for him 🧠. And fear will ALWAYS distort truth 😨.
Here’s the hard part: even people CLOSE to us can give counsel that’s not GODLY 🚫. Not every voice deserves a VOTE 🗳️. Some voices sound LOGICAL but are not SPIRITUAL 🧠 vs 🕊️. Bad counsel pushes REACTION. Godly wisdom invites PRAYER 🙏🏾.
This passage reminds us to SLOW DOWN 🛑. To take EVERY decision, big or small, to the Lord 📖. Because when we move without God, we risk sabotaging our own PEACE 🕊️ and BLESSINGS 💔.
Before you act, ASK GOD. Before you believe it, PRAY about it. Before you move, CHECK the voice 🗣️.

When faced with advice or opinions, it’s so easy to react quickly, especially when emotions are involved. The story of Hanun reminds me that the voices we hear—even from people close to us—can sometimes steer us away from peace if we don’t pause and seek God’s wisdom first. In my personal experience, I used to make decisions based on what seemed logical at the moment or what others told me, but I often ended up feeling unsettled or confused. Only when I started intentionally praying and asking for discernment did I notice a difference. Prayer became my way to filter out fear-driven or reactionary counsel and allowed me to respond with a calm spirit. Another helpful practice is to identify the nature of the voices whispering in your ear: are they based on fear, logic, or spiritual insight? Sometimes the most convincing advice isn’t the one aligned with spiritual truth. That’s why checking these voices against Scripture and praying over them is crucial. Also, taking time before making decisions—big or small—can make a huge difference. I’ve learned to slow down, reflect, and pray even during daily moments like lunch breaks. This habit helps me stay grounded and avoid the mistakes that come from hasty action. Remember, asking "Should I take this advice?" is a great starting point. But adding "Have I prayed about this?" makes the decision much wiser. It's about being intentional and inviting God into every step, ensuring our actions lead to peace and blessings rather than regret.
