Losing my MOM, I suffered extreme bouts of grief.

3/1 Edited to

... Read moreIt's been a journey, one I never imagined I'd embark on. Losing my mom felt like the world stopped spinning, and I was left in a void of overwhelming sadness. For a long time, simply getting out of bed felt like an insurmountable task. The vibrant person I once was seemed to vanish, replaced by a shadow of grief. Every day was a battle, a constant struggle against the waves of sorrow that threatened to pull me under. I remember looking in the mirror and not recognizing the person staring back, her eyes hollow, her spirit dim. Then, slowly, almost imperceptibly, something shifted. It wasn't a grand revelation, but a series of small, almost instinctual acts of self-preservation. One morning, I found myself reaching for my old makeup bag. I hadn't touched it in months. There was no particular reason, no special occasion. Perhaps it was just a desperate attempt to feel something other than pain, a small rebellion against the numbness. I started with a simple routine: a bit of concealer to hide the sleepless nights, a touch of mascara to open my tired eyes. It wasn't about looking perfect; it was about reclaiming a tiny piece of myself. Each stroke of the brush, each dab of powder, became a meditative act. It was a moment where I could focus on something tangible, something within my control, even when everything else felt chaotic and out of reach. This wasn't about superficiality; it was about grounding myself, creating a small ritual that brought a semblance of normalcy back into my fragmented days. What I discovered was a profound connection between external care and internal healing. The act of putting on makeup wasn't about masking my grief, but about acknowledging it while simultaneously affirming my existence. It was my personal way of embracing #beautyinpain – understanding that even in the deepest sorrow, there can be moments where you choose to nurture yourself, to find a flicker of light. It taught me that self-care, in its simplest forms, can be a powerful tool in navigating the darkest times. This daily ritual became a cornerstone in my journey from #grieftograce and #grieftogrowth. It wasn't about erasing the pain or forgetting my mom; it was about learning to live with the immense loss and slowly, painstakingly, finding my way forward. It was about allowing myself to feel beautiful, even when my heart was breaking. Sometimes, the most #UnderratedMakeup products – a simple lip balm or a trusted eyeliner – became my secret weapons, little comforts that helped me face the day. This path isn't linear, and there are still days when grief feels as fresh as the day it began. But I've learned that it's okay to seek comfort in unexpected places. It's okay to find strength in rituals, in self-expression, in simply showing up for yourself. If you're navigating your own storm of grief, know that you're not alone. Whatever your personal act of self-care may be, embrace it. It’s a vital step in moving from profound loss towards a new kind of strength and, eventually, a renewed sense of purpose.
