Lavender Hognose snake 💜
Oh my goodness, can we just talk about how absolutely breathtaking Lavender Hognose snakes are? I mean, seriously, when I first saw a picture of one, I was instantly captivated by their unique coloration. It’s not just a purple tint; it’s this soft, ethereal lavender hue that makes them stand out from every other hognose morph I've encountered. Owning one has been such a joy, and I wanted to share a bit about why they're so special and what I've learned along the way! One of the coolest things about the lavender hognose snake is the variety of morphs you can find. My personal favorite, besides the standard lavender, is definitely the Superconda Lavender Hognose. The Superconda trait eliminates almost all of the pattern, leaving behind an incredibly clean, often blushing lavender body. It’s just stunning! Then there are the Albino Lavender Hognose snakes, which combine the lack of black pigment with the beautiful lavender base, resulting in a truly unique and often pastel appearance. And let’s not forget the Lavender Arctic Hognose – the Arctic gene adds a frosted, reduced pattern look that makes the lavender pop even more. Each lavender morph hognose snake has its own charm, and it's fascinating to see the subtle differences. From my experience, hognose snakes, especially the Heterodon nasicus species, are fantastic pets for both beginners and experienced keepers. They're relatively small, typically reaching around 1-2 feet, which makes their housing requirements manageable. I keep mine in a securely latched enclosure with plenty of substrate for burrowing – they just love to dig! For heating, an under-tank heater connected to a thermostat works wonders, providing that essential belly heat. And don't even get me started on their personalities! My lavender hognose is such a character. They're known for their dramatic 'playing dead' act when they feel threatened, which is more hilarious than scary once you know what to expect. They also have that adorable upturned snout that gives them their name, perfect for burrowing. Feeding time is always an adventure; mine can be a bit picky sometimes, but frozen/thawed pinky mice usually do the trick. Just make sure the prey item isn't too large for them. Honestly, if you're looking for a snake with a captivating look and an intriguing personality, a lavender hognose is absolutely worth considering. They're not just beautiful; they’re interactive and relatively low-maintenance once you get their setup right. I find myself spending ages just watching mine explore its enclosure or pop its little head out of the substrate. They truly bring so much joy, and sharing my journey with my lavender hognose has been such a rewarding experience. If you’re thinking about getting one, do your research, find a reputable breeder, and prepare to fall in love with these charming colubrids!
