... Read moreHey everyone! I'm so excited to share my latest fan art piece with you all โ a pencil sketch of none other than Kenma Kozume from Haikyuu!! As a huge fan, I always love capturing characters in moments that truly define them, and seeing a hungry Kenma enjoying his food is just the best.
For this drawing, I really wanted to focus on Kenma's softer side, especially when he's relaxed and happy. I sketched him with his iconic short hair, and I paid extra attention to his fluffy-collared jacket, trying to get those details just right. The star of the show, of course, is the Taiyaki! If you're a Kenma fan, you know this fish-shaped pastry is often associated with him, and it's practically his favorite food. Taiyaki is a traditional Japanese street food, essentially a waffle or pancake-like batter cooked in a fish-shaped mold. It's most commonly filled with anko (sweetened red bean paste), but you can also find it with custard, chocolate, or cheese. Itโs such a comforting and delightful snack, perfectly fitting for Kenma's generally calm and observant nature.
I imagined him taking a moment away from his intense gaming sessions or volleyball practice, just fully immersed in the simple pleasure of eating. That's why I drew his eyes closed in pure enjoyment, holding the pastry with both hands โ it's such a pure, relatable moment, isn't it? Capturing that feeling of contentment was really important to me. When I'm drawing, I always try to think about the character's personality and how they would truly express themselves in that specific situation. For Kenma, even a small smile or closed eyes often convey a lot.
When I started this Kenma drawing, I was thinking about what makes fan art so special. It's not just about replicating a character; it's about interpreting them through your own lens and sharing that love with others. If you're looking to draw Kenma or other anime characters, my biggest tip is to study their expressions and iconic poses. Pay attention to how their hair falls, the unique folds in their clothing โ like Kenma's fluffy-collared jacket โ and how their hands interact with objects. Observing these small details can bring so much life to your drawing. Don't be afraid to experiment with different mediums too; a simple pencil sketch can be incredibly expressive!
Many people ask, "what is Kenma's favorite food?" While he's not super vocal about his preferences, Taiyaki is a widely accepted fan-favorite choice for him, often seen in official art and fan depictions. Itโs light, portable, and a perfect snack for a gamer like him who might prefer something easy to eat between matches or while traveling. Seeing Kenma eating happily like this truly makes me smile. It reminds us that even our most reserved characters have these lovely, simple joys. What do you guys think? Have you ever tried drawing your favorite anime characters indulging in their favorite snacks? I'd love to hear about it and see your creations!
