TAKE A TRIP UP NORTH

I am convinced that northern Minnesota is one of the most beautiful places to visit.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to travel back to my home state and head up north for a long weekend. It truly was soul refreshing. I haven’t had a wholesome, nature filled weekend like that in a LONG time.

Here’s your reminder that trips don’t have to be extravagant to other countries, states or sometimes even cities. There is so much beauty in what’s around us that we sometimes take for granted.

While my recent trip up north was all about soaking in nature's beauty, discovering this unique spot was a definite highlight. Nestled along the scenic North Shore, the Silver Creek Tunnel isn't just a tunnel; it's a piece of history carved right into a massive rocky cliff face. Driving (or walking!) through it feels like stepping into another world, with the sunlight playing tricks as you emerge back into the stunning landscape of Lake Superior. I remember seeing it pictured from the outside, a stone entrance beckoning adventurers, and I just had to check it out. It's truly a testament to the ingenuity of early travelers. But Silver Creek isn't just about the tunnel. It's part of an incredible area that offers so much more. After marveling at the tunnel, I continued my journey, hiking through lush green forests and finding myself at breathtaking spots like Split Rock Lighthouse State Park, where the rugged shoreline meets the vastness of Lake Superior. The views there are absolutely iconic, perfect for capturing those postcard-worthy moments. And if you love chasing waterfalls as much as I do, this region does not disappoint! Caribou Falls, with its impressive cascades, and the multi-tiered Cascade Falls were both absolutely stunning. There's something so calming about the sound of rushing water, and these spots truly let you connect with nature. I also took a memorable hike up Oberg Mountain, which offered panoramic views of the forested coastline meeting the shimmering lake – it was an effort, but oh-so-worth-it for those incredible vistas. What I love most about Northern Minnesota, especially around places like Silver Creek, is how accessible these natural wonders are. You don't need to be an expert hiker to enjoy a day exploring. Just pack some comfy shoes, water, and a camera, and you're set for an adventure. I found myself just sitting on those lichen-covered rocks by Lake Superior, soaking it all in, realizing how much beauty we take for granted right in our backyard. For anyone looking for a truly soul-refreshing escape, away from the hustle and bustle, a trip to experience the magic of Silver Creek Tunnel and the surrounding natural parks is an absolute must. It’s proof that the most extravagant memories often come from the simplest, most authentic encounters with nature.
