Scanning Kids detanglers at Walmart !

Just cause some are bad doesn’t mean they don’t work good ! Although I prefer cleaner ingredients. Which detanglers do you use for yours kiddos? Comment !

... Read moreAs a parent, I know the daily struggle of tangled hair! It's not just about getting the knots out; it's also about what we're putting on our kids' delicate scalps and hair. That's why I decided to take a deeper dive, literally scanning the ingredients of popular kids' detanglers at Walmart. The results were truly eye-opening, especially for brands like Aussie and Cantu that many of us often reach for. My journey started because I've been trying to lean towards cleaner ingredients for my family. When I scanned the Aussie Kids Moist Detangling Spray, it scored a 'Poor' 37/100, largely due to ingredients like Phenoxyethanol, which is often flagged as a moderate risk. Similarly, the Cantu Care for Kids Conditioning Detangler scored even lower, a 'Bad' 17/100, with Phenoxyethanol and Benzyl salicylate. It made me realize that just because a product is popular or widely available doesn't mean it's the best choice from an ingredient perspective. So, what should we look for? And what were the pleasant surprises? I was thrilled to find some excellent options! The Urban Hydration Breath Of Fresh Air kids detangler scored an impressive 86/100, landing in the 'Excellent' category, with low-risk ingredients like PEG-40 Hydrogenated castor oil. This was a fantastic find for those seeking worry-free options. Another winner was the Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Kids Extra-Moisturizing Detangler, also scoring an 'Excellent' 86/100, featuring Behentrimonium chloride, which is considered low risk. And let's not forget the Aveeno Kids Hydrating Detangling Spray, which matched with an 'Excellent' 86/100 score, using Behentrimonium chloride as well. These are the kinds of products that make the detangling routine feel a lot better, knowing you're using something gentle. On the flip side, I also scanned products like TPH By Taraji Ride or Die Biotin Leave In Conditioner (21/100, Bad) and Mielle Pomegranate & Honey Moisturizing Detangling (35/100, Poor), both containing Phenoxyethanol. Even the Creme of Nature Coconut Milk scored 'Poor' with Cyclopentasiloxane. It really highlighted how prevalent these ingredients are in many formulations. While the Just for me Ultimate Detangling Conditioner scored a decent 'Good' 65/100 with ingredients like Citrus Aurantium Dulcis Peel Oil, it's a good example of a product that's acceptable but perhaps not top-tier for "cleanliness." Beyond just products, detangling can be made easier with a few techniques. Always start with wet hair, use a wide-tooth comb, and work from the ends up to the roots. Never pull or yank, as this can cause breakage and discomfort for your little one. Sometimes, a good leave-in conditioner can make a huge difference, even before applying a detangler. Finding the right detangler with ingredients you trust can be a game-changer for both your kids' hair health and your peace of mind. It truly pays to look beyond the cute packaging and marketing claims and really scrutinize those ingredient lists. What are your go-to detanglers, especially those with cleaner ingredients? I’d love to hear your recommendations!
