ever since I can remember I had always experienced hyperpigmentation around my body from my knees to my elbows and in between my chest. I never was self conscious but it was just something I wanted to even out the more I grew up. Using these three products I have seen significant changes around those areas of my body! 🤎

... Read moreYou know, while my main article focused on those easier-to-reach spots like knees and elbows, I've heard so many of you ask about discoloration on the back – especially for brown skin! It’s a super common concern, and often, it’s even harder to treat because it’s out of sight and hard to reach. I totally get it! Just like other areas, brown skin discoloration on the back can stem from a few things: friction from clothing or bras, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) from bacne, sun exposure, or even just general unevenness. The good news is, the principles for treating it are similar to what I discussed, but with a few tweaks for practicality. First, let's talk about cleansing. Using a gentle exfoliating cleanser like a 'complexion bar soap' (similar to the one I mentioned) can make a huge difference. For your back, a long-handled body brush is your best friend! This helps you reach every spot and ensures you’re gently buffing away dead skin cells that contribute to dullness and discoloration. Look for soaps with ingredients like salicylic acid or lactic acid for that extra exfoliation. Next, chemical exfoliation. My holy grail 'glycolic acid toning solution' isn't just for your face or armpits! Diluting it slightly or using a glycolic acid body spray can be incredibly effective for the back. You can spray it directly onto hard-to-reach areas or even spray it onto a soft cloth attached to your body brush for targeted application. Glycolic acid works wonders by speeding up cell turnover, helping to fade those stubborn dark spots and 'easily treat discoloration' over time. Just remember to start slow, maybe a few times a week, to see how your skin reacts. Finally, don't forget prevention and protection. While I used an 'even tone antiperspirant deodorant' for underarms, for the back, think about lightweight, non-comedogenic lotions that contain ingredients like niacinamide or vitamin C. These can help inhibit melanin production and further even out your skin tone. And the biggest one? Sunscreen! The sun can worsen discoloration, so if you're wearing backless tops or spending time outdoors, a broad-spectrum SPF is non-negotiable. Reaching your back for sunscreen can be tricky, so those spray sunscreens are a lifesaver. Taking care of your back discoloration requires patience and consistency, just like any other skin concern. It's about creating a routine that you can stick to, even if it means getting a little creative with application tools. Don't get discouraged if you don't see results overnight. Keep at it, and you'll be well on your way to a smoother, more even-toned back! Remember, you're not alone in this journey.
