First Makeup Review 💄✨

I used my products from Ipsy today! I was really excited to try the new eyeshadow pallet. It’s so pretty and I love doing different eyeshadow looks. I want to keep doing it for myself again.

Lunar Beauty

Rating: 10/10

I’ve been a fan of MUA Manny on YouTube for a long time, and I finally got to try his Moon Prism Liquid Blush in Rosa Reina. The shade is exactly the color Manny often uses, and it’s super pigmented! At first, I wasn’t sure about the color when I swatched it on my leg, but once I applied it to my cheeks, it blended seamlessly into my skin. I’ve been using Rare Beauty blush, and I have to say this is right up there with it. I would buy again and I’m excited to try more from Lunar Beauty!

Anastasia Beverly Hills

Rating: 10/10

The Brow Wiz in Dark Brown is a game-changer for my brows. The creamy pencil glides on effortlessly, making it so easy to fill in and shape my eyebrows. I had forgotten how much fuller your brows can look with just a few strokes. This pencil is definitely on the pricier side, so I’m thrilled it came in my $30 Boxycharm box!

•

Context Skin

Rating: 10/10

I swatched this matte bronzer on my wrist and was immediately impressed by the buttery texture. It’s soft to the touch and glides effortlessly on the skin. The shade complements my skin tone perfectly. I’m definitely going to look into more products from Context Skin.

Iconic London Eyeshadow Palette

Rating: 8/10

This palette offers 20 beautiful colors, and I loved how easy the shades were to blend. The pigment is soft and buildable, but the staying power wasn’t as long-lasting as I’d hoped. You do need to pack it on for more intensity, but the variety of looks you can create is amazing.

... Read moreOkay, so you've seen my latest hauls and reviews, but let's dive into something I find super helpful, especially when trying new makeup: swatching! Honestly, without a good swatch, it's so hard to tell if a product will actually work for you. I mean, who wants to buy something only to find out the color looks completely different on their skin? Not me! When I'm trying out new products, especially eyeshadows or blushes, my arm becomes my little canvas. It’s the easiest way to check for pigment and see if a shade truly matches what I'm looking for. Take the Lunar Beauty Moon Prism Liquid Blush I reviewed – when I first swatched it on my leg, I wasn't so sure about the color. But that's exactly why swatching is so important! It gives you a real-life preview. You get to see if it's super pigmented or if it needs to be built up. It also helps you see the texture – is it buttery smooth like the Context Skin matte bronzer, or does it have a different finish? For eyeshadows, swatching is a game-changer. You might see a beautiful shade in the pan, but how does it translate to your skin? I always look for vibrant pigment, especially when trying out colors like the stunning blue eyeshadows or those rich shimmery gold, bronze, and silver tones. With the Iconic London palette, I noticed on my arm how the pigment was soft and buildable. This helps me decide if I need to use a primer or pack it on for more intensity. It's also great for comparing how glittery gold, brown, and teal shades look next to each other. Here are a few tips I've picked up for getting the best swatches: Clean Skin: Always start with clean, dry skin. Any oils or lotions can affect how the product applies. Good Lighting: Natural daylight is your best friend! It gives the most accurate representation of the color. Avoid harsh artificial lights if you can. Different Application Methods: Try swatching with both your finger and a brush if it's an eyeshadow or blush. Sometimes a finger gives more intense payoff, while a brush shows how it blends. Layer It Up: Don't just do one swipe. Do a light swipe, then a heavier one, and maybe even try to blend it out a little. This shows you the product's versatility. I also pay attention to how the product dries down. Does it stay creamy, or does it set? This is crucial for things like liquid blushes or even some bronzers. The images from my recent haul, showing swatches of shimmery white, light pink, and those gorgeous blush tones, really emphasize how different shades can look once applied. It truly helps in understanding the product's finish and how it might interact with your skin tone. Ultimately, swatching is like doing a mini experiment before committing to a full face of makeup. It saves you time, money, and helps you build a collection of products you truly love. What are your go-to swatching tips? I'd love to hear them!
