A cozy crafting tradition: clay ornaments💗❄️
Winter always shifts something inside me 🤍 The cold settles in, the days feel quieter, and I find myself craving small ways to slow down and reconnect with creativity. One of my favorite rituals lately has been hosting craft nights with my cousin, where we gather around a table with snacks, music playing softly, and a chaotic pile of supplies spread everywhere. Those nights are less about perfection and more about being present. Creating side by side just feels grounding.
During one of our recent craft sessions, she brought out these adorable air dry clay ornaments she had shaped by hand. There were tiny cats, a sweet little heart, a round ornament base, and then this curved crescent moon that instantly called to me 🌙 Celestial pieces always feel the most me, so I decided that would be the first one I painted.
I went with a gentle blue and purple ombre blend, slowly layering color until the surface felt dreamy and dimensional. Once the base dried, I dotted tiny yellow stars across the moon to give it that whimsical glow I love so much ✨ There was something incredibly soothing about focusing on the tiniest details. Each brushstroke pulled my attention into the moment and calmed the background noise of anxious thoughts.
Because the ornaments were made from air dry clay, I simply let them cure naturally once finished. Before they fully set, I slipped little loop hooks into the tops so I could thread string through them later and hang them from the tree. You could use twine or ribbon but the loops on these were pretty small, so I went with simple string to keep everything light and delicate 🤍 I might spray seal them eventually for extra protection, or I might leave them exactly as they are. There is something beautiful about their soft, handmade imperfections.
What I love most about projects like these is that they become more than decorations. Every ornament holds a memory of laughter at the table, paint smudges on our fingers, and the gentle feeling of making something meaningful together. When I hang this moon on my tree, I will always remember that cozy night spent creating instead of rushing or scrolling.
Crafting has become such a gentle form of therapy for me. It reminds me that rest does not always mean doing nothing. Sometimes rest means creating something small and beautiful simply because you can 🎨 These slow creative traditions bring so much warmth into my home during the winter months and help me reconnect to peace in the middle of busy holiday seasons.
This little moon is just the beginning, and I cannot wait to paint the rest of the clay shapes my cousin made. Each ornament will become its own tiny keepsake from these cozy winter craft nights ✨
