My dad is 60 and I'm scared...
Hear me out!
I know as a man -- as a Black man, my dad is fortunate to have made it to see such a beautiful age! And for that, I am forever grateful ✨
HOWEVER... (and I dont mean to be agist here) even at my big age 60 still sounds old to me 😭 and word association is whooping me right now cause im just like noooooooo, not my daddy! But im faithful that he will have many more to come and I should stop allowing my mind to rob me of life's pleasures... i.e. celebrating a Black man that has lived 6 decades in this mess of a world.
Whew.
Love you daddy ! & cheers to many many more ✨
After sharing my raw feelings about my amazing dad turning the big 6-0, I wanted to dive a little deeper into what this milestone truly means, not just for me, but for anyone celebrating their own 'Big Dawg.' It's a huge moment, and it often brings up so many emotions – gratitude, nostalgia, a touch of fear, but mostly, immense love. If you're like me, you might be thinking about how to perfectly capture all that love and appreciation in a 60th birthday speech for dad. My best advice? Keep it authentic. Think about those standout memories, the quirks that make him uniquely him, and the lessons he’s taught you. When I envision my own speech for Daddy, I'd start with a funny anecdote – maybe about his unwavering dad jokes or a time he saved the day in a classic 'dad' fashion. Then, I’d transition to the profound impact he's had. For me, it would be highlighting his resilience as a Black man living six decades, showing me strength and grace. Don't be afraid to show vulnerability; it makes your words more powerful. End with a heartfelt toast to 'many more' years, vibrant and full of joy, just like the collage of photos I’ve been looking through, showing our loving relationship through the years, from my childhood to graduation. But beyond the speeches, what does it mean to have a dad at 60? It means appreciating his wisdom, his stories, and his continued presence. It’s a time to celebrate his journey and all the experiences that shaped him. For my 'Big Dawg,' it means cherishing our time together even more. Maybe it's planning new adventures, or simply enjoying quiet moments. It could be helping him explore new hobbies or revisiting old ones. I'm focusing on ensuring he feels seen, loved, and valued, not just for who he was, but for who he continues to be. We often see these milestones as markers of time passing, but I’m choosing to see it as a celebration of life lived richly and a promise of more beautiful moments to come. For anyone looking to wish their father a 'happy birthday big dawg,' remember that the sentiment behind the words is what truly matters. Whether it's a simple text, a heartfelt card, or a grand celebration, make sure it reflects your unique bond. Maybe create a photo album or a digital slideshow, like my own 'swipe za to see more pics of me and my daddy' collection, showcasing all your shared memories. It’s about making them feel special and loved, acknowledging their incredible journey, and the profound role they play in our lives. This isn't just a birthday; it's a testament to a life well-lived, and I'm eternally grateful to witness and be a part of it.
