Maui’s Favorite Summer Treat: Dog Ice Cream! 🍦🐶

🌞 Summer is here, and in Florida, that means some seriously hot days. To keep my golden retriever Maui cool and happy, we’ve discovered the ultimate summer treat: dog ice cream! It’s a game-changer for beating the heat, and Maui absolutely loves it. Here’s why we think it’s a must-have for every dog owner.

Why We Love Dog Ice Cream

1. Keeps Maui Cool

Florida summers can be brutal, and dog ice cream is the perfect way to help Maui stay cool. It’s refreshing and delicious, giving him a break from the heat.

2. Healthy Ingredients

The dog ice cream we use is made with all-natural ingredients, safe for dogs. It doesn’t contain any harmful additives or preservatives, so I feel good about giving it to Maui.

3. Easy to Serve

Just like human ice cream, dog ice cream comes in convenient, single-serving cups. I store them in the freezer and grab one whenever Maui needs a cool treat.

How We Use It

Summer Fun

On those scorching days, I give Maui a cup of dog ice cream to enjoy outside. He loves licking it up while lounging in the shade.

Training Reward

I also use it as a special treat during training sessions. It’s a high-value reward that keeps Maui motivated and excited.

Where to Buy and Cost

Where We Get It

We buy our dog ice cream from our local pet store, but you can also find it online on sites like Chewy or Amazon. Brands like Frosty Paws and Puppy Scoops offer great options.

Cost

A pack of four single-serving cups usually costs around $5 to $7. It’s an affordable treat that brings Maui so much joy and relief from the heat.

If you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend picking some up for your furry friend. Trust me, they’ll thank you for it!

Stay cool and enjoy the summer with your pups! 🐾🍦

... Read moreIt's no secret that summer can be tough on our furry friends, especially puppies! They're full of energy, but their little bodies can overheat quickly. While my golden retriever Maui absolutely loves his doggie ice cream (and who can blame him, right? ICE CREAM, DUHHH!), there are so many other ways we can ensure our puppies stay happy and healthy when the temperatures soar. I've learned a few tricks over the years that really help keep those playful pups cool. First off, hydration is key! Always make sure your puppy has access to fresh, cool water. I even started adding a few ice cubes to Maui's water bowl on really hot days – he thinks it’s a fun game to try and get them out, and it keeps his water colder longer. You can also get those portable water bottles for walks, which are a lifesaver. When it comes to exercise, timing is everything. Those midday strolls might be fine for us, but the pavement can get scorching hot for delicate paw pads. I make sure to take my pup out for walks early in the morning or late in the evening when it’s much cooler. This also helps avoid the intense sun. A little trick: if you can't comfortably hold your hand on the pavement for five seconds, it's too hot for your puppy's paws! Cooling accessories are also a game-changer. I invested in a cooling mat for Maui, and he absolutely loves lounging on it after a short play session. There are also cooling bandanas you can wet and tie around their necks. For puppies who love water, a small, shallow kiddie pool can provide endless fun and a fantastic way to cool down. Watching them splash around is just the cutest! Don't forget about homemade frozen treats! Beyond store-bought dog ice cream, you can easily whip up your own. I often freeze diluted chicken broth in ice cube trays or blend some dog-safe fruits like bananas and blueberries with plain yogurt, then freeze them in small molds. These are fantastic for keeping them occupied and hydrated. It's a simple way to create more 'ICE CREAM' moments for your pup! Grooming also plays a role. Regular brushing helps remove loose undercoat, which can trap heat. For some breeds, a summer trim might be beneficial, but always consult your vet or a professional groomer first, as some double coats actually provide insulation against heat and sun. Finally, remember to keep an eye on your puppy for any signs of overheating, like excessive panting, lethargy, or weakness. If you notice these, get them into a cool space immediately and offer water. Being proactive about keeping your puppy happy in the Summer means being vigilant and creative with cooling solutions. With these tips, you and your little furball can enjoy a safe, refreshing, and truly happy summer together!
