Before Remodel above shower enclosure
I’m doing a small remodel of my kids shower enclosure. I’m installing tile on the top replacing damaged Sheetrock.
When remodeling a shower enclosure, one of the most important steps is properly preparing the surface before installing new tile. From my experience, removing damaged Sheetrock ensures that the area is stable and free from mold or moisture damage, which is crucial in wet environments like showers. After removing the damaged drywall section, I recommend installing a cement backer board such as HardieBacker, as it is water-resistant and provides a solid base for tile. Securing the backer board properly with screws at recommended intervals prevents movement which can cause tile cracks later. Before applying tile adhesive, make sure the surface is clean and dust-free for better adhesion. Choosing the right tile and grout that are designed for wet conditions will enhance durability and ease of maintenance. Additionally, sealing grout lines after installation helps protect against moisture penetration and mold growth. Throughout the process, use waterproofing membranes or liquid waterproofing products on the backer board to add an extra layer of moisture protection. Taking these careful preparation and installation steps has helped me achieve long-lasting and visually appealing shower enclosures. Attention to detail upfront saves time and money by preventing future water damage and tile issues.
