My Controversial Art Habits ✨🖌

... Read moreAs an artist, I've learned that some habits might raise eyebrows in the creative community, but they genuinely help me maintain my workflow and creativity. One controversial habit I practice is reusing my own artwork as reference. I'm admittedly a slow artist, so when I spend hours perfecting a piece, I don’t mind showing it again. This helps me maximize the value of every creation and reduces pressure to constantly produce brand new work. Another habit involves relying on my memory to fuel my artistic ideas instead of always seeking external references. While I do use references, especially from my vast Pinterest collections—from Victorian imagery to supernatural and comic inspiration—I try to recall scenes and elements from memory to push my imagination and personal style further. It can be a messy process; I have countless Pinterest boards filled with sections like “superhero,” “witches,” and “art references.” Yet, trusting my brain to catch up with those great ideas has unexpectedly enriched my artwork. I welcome discussion about such habits because art is subjective, and what works for one may not work for another. Embracing your personal workflow, even if it's unconventional or controversial, can be vital to growing as an artist. So, if you’re like me — sometimes reusing content and trusting your memory — don’t stress over the norms. Instead, celebrate your unique creative journey and share your own art habits with the world!
