Feeling numb or emotionally disconnected can be a challenging experience, often leaving us questioning our faith and sense of purpose. From my own journey, I have found that even in those moments when it feels like nothing is stirring inside, faith can serve as a lifeline. Psalm 147:3 says, "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds," which reassures us that healing is possible, no matter how deep the hurt. When I experienced numbness during a difficult season, it was helpful to remind myself that numbness itself is a form of protection—an emotional shield when pain is overwhelming. Embracing this temporarily rather than resisting it allowed me to patiently seek comfort in scripture, prayer, and fellowship. Engaging with communities that share honest conversations about faith and hardship, like the #ComeToJesus and #FaithInHardMoments groups, helped me realize I was not alone. Hearing others share their struggles and testimonies gave me hope and reinforced the truth that God holds even the numbest hearts. It’s important to acknowledge that feeling nothing doesn’t equate to a lack of faith or love for God. Sometimes, it's a call to deeper surrender and trust—leaning into God's promises rather than our feelings. Practices like journaling prayers or simply sitting in quiet reflection while meditating on verses such as Psalm 147:3 helped me reconnect with a spiritual foundation during those times. Remember, healing is a process and God’s healing can come in gentle, gradual ways. Even the smallest step of reaching out for support, reading scripture, or speaking to a trusted friend or pastor can be a crucial part of breaking through numbness. If you find yourself feeling emotionally numb or spiritually distant, know that you are seen and held by a loving God who is actively binding up your wounds, even when you feel nothing. Your faith journey includes these hard moments, and through them, healing and renewal are possible.
