I never record strangers, but I couldn’t believe my eyes
I remember the moment I saw someone getting on one knee in public, and it struck me deeply. It’s common in many cultures for men to propose on one knee, but the reality is that this act can sometimes reinforce outdated gender roles and expectations that aren't always healthy or empowering. From my perspective, we shouldn't just accept or normalize this without questioning what it signifies in modern relationships. Standing up for yourself and your worth is far more important than adhering to a tradition that places one partner in a submissive position. It’s crucial to recognize that respect, commitment, and love do not need to be proven through grand gestures that might feel uncomfortable or forced. In fact, I felt an urge to shout at the person to stand up and not follow this societal script blindly. It’s okay to redefine what commitment means for you personally—whether that includes a proposal or not. The focus should be on mutual respect and understanding rather than symbolic acts. From talking with friends and reading about evolving relationship dynamics, many people are moving towards partnerships where both individuals show equal strength and independence. So, instead of focusing on the knee as a symbol, look for authentic actions that demonstrate care, communication, and partnership. Ultimately, being aware of these social norms and challenging them if they don't resonate with you is a step toward healthier and more balanced relationships. Don’t be afraid to stand tall and create your own narrative about love and commitment.
