Has modesty hindered my confidence?
This is a question I get very often. What I’m going to say isn’t an attack on anyone. I just want to maybe challenge your thinking and maybe put things in a new perspective.
Modesty hasn’t hindered my confidence because my confidence isn’t swayed by my clothing. I had confidence before dressing modesty. I put in the work to build myself up well before becoming Muslim. When I walk into a room I own it. I walk with my head held high. The world is my runway. I’m the star of my own show. Main character energy babe, as a fellow creator would say.
The clothing doesn’t give you confidence , it comes from within. You’re letting the clothing wear you when you should be wearing the clothing. Youre wearing one of the biggest statement pieces given to us from the Almighty himself. It’s an honor! So wear it loud and proudly.
You look beautiful. You just have to believe it.
So I ask you; Are you struggling dressing modestly because you don’t feel confident in your clothing OR are you simply struggling with your confidence?

Modesty in fashion, especially for those in the Muslim community, has often been perceived as a barrier to self-confidence. Many women feel they cannot express themselves fully due to clothing restrictions. However, confidence stems from self-acceptance and attitude rather than fashion choices. Women who dress modestly can radiate confidence in ways that are not confined by their outfits. Empowerment can be found by understanding that true beauty and confidence lie within oneself. Achieving a sense of self-worth transcends clothing styles; it is about owning who you are, regardless of the attire. Embrace your modest fashion choices, and do not let them deter you from feeling beautiful and confident. Engaging with communities on platforms like Lemon8, especially in hashtags such as #modestfashion and #muslimahfashion, can offer support and inspiration to women navigating these challenges. Sharing experiences can help dismantle the stigma around modest dressing and promote a positive discourse on self-image and identity. When you redefine modesty as a source of pride, you empower yourself and others to flourish while adhering to their values.

My confidence in what I wear has changed so much over the years. At one point it was dressing super revealing than a mix of modest and revealing but now it’s more modest than anything. I like to think we should all allow ourselves to flow with what works best for us because we as beings evolve as we experience.
